Hi All
I have a mid priced LCD TV....therefore is it worth me shelling out an extra few quid for blu-ray DVDs or is the difference in quality not worth it?
Cheers

Can your TV do 1080p, and what size is it?
I'm no expert, but 32" or smaller then it's not going to be worth it.

Most Blu-ray players can also uprate DVD picture quality to near HD as well so win, win

When I compared a film in DVD to the BD equiv on 105" projected 1080p the difference is astonishing! On a 50" plasma the difference is still hugely noticable.

I can't understand why the BBC and ITV make programmes in HD and then only sell them on DVDs though. The recent Midsomer Murders episodes are a classic example.

Another way to look at it is that when you have a large television, DVDs can look shockingly poor and a BD is the only thing that looks presentable.
The Godfather Blu-ray on my 50" 1080p Panasonic plasma didnt look any better than the DVD of the same film on a 28" widescreen Hitachi CRT!

If I understand it correctly, Blu-Rays are only worthwhile if the programme or film was made in HD in the first place. The Godfather wasn't, so that's probably why it looked no better than the DVD.
Can anyone confirm this please?

When they blu-ray the older films they digitally remaster them so should benefit from blu-ray.
