Default Wifi video camera /microphone

Is there a better cheaper solution for my mother to be carrying around the house

Than a playbook? , I have one all ready - like to keep eye on her (she lives abroad)

She has a pc laptop but it's relatively heavy / cumbersome

-she isn't about to invest in a 500 pound phone, even if she could get signal where the house is ( which she cant)

Thank -you

Why are you wanting to achieve? If it's for Skype then a cheapo tablet would do the job e.g. http://www.ebuyer.com/452365-acer-ic...edium=products are well rated for kids and old folk

Can't use skype on playbook, but also the webcam has ten times as many pixels on playbook

Obviously it's not all about the pixels, but from what I've read the count is more relevant on a tablet than a phone ,for example

Pixels wont make any difference what so ever mate.

Pixels are just the size of the image.. the quality is from the lens.

I thought you could side load Skype on the Playbook?
I'm sure I did it on mine. Can't check cause the battery is flat

Hang on, I'll plug it in..

edit: must have remembered wrong. Skype isn't on there.

Is that a fact

If that is the case why would they not stuck with 0.3 mp like every other tablet?

Are you saying it's just marketing??

Same with any camera & yes marketing does drive the pixel count war as lens quality is somewhat harder to measure.

It's a bit of both - crap lens and lots of pixels = recording a crappy image in lots of detail, however, cracking lens and no pixels isn't going to be much use either.

In general, most consumer cameras have way more megapixels than they need and particularly if you're just going to view it on a screen.

Obviously the bigger and higher resolution the screen, the more pixels/details you need, but go too high and bandwidth becomes an issue - you can't move enough pixels fast enough and so the image becomes jerky.........
