WE have just had a gun amnesty in the county and surround counties as well. Nice idea in principal and makes itr look like something is being done about crime and the causes.
Well guess what
The Post Office in Grendon ( a quaint little rural village about 6 miles from Wellingborough) was robbed and an 80 y/o woman injured (not shot) by a man with a gun.
I'll say it again - Criminals live outside the law, they are the ones who should hand over the weapons and they do not and will not. Gun amnesty means nothing to people who live outside the law.
The government can ban every single weapon including water pistols and it will not make a jot of difference to these people.
About time the government woke up!
Just found an old thread with point for and against banning for your info.

It is a convenient way to make it look as though something positive is being done about guns and criminals, but as we now know it does not do anything except improve the profits of the illegal gun suppliers.

Quite agree Paul, the scum won't hand over their weopons. Only the Farmer with a dodgy World War 2 handgun etc.
This country should wake up. Violent crime up 60% in past 4 years. I wonder why? New Labour's political correctness has ruined this country. Police have been turned into social worker.

I can't believe you lot !
The farmers are the dangerous ones - Imagine the scene.
You're going about your lawful buisness burglaring a farmer in the middle of nowhere when the dozy ****** wakes up and gets his WW2 gun and shoots you. Who's going to feed your pit bulls, keep your bitches in the live style they have come to expect !
Any Gun Ammnesty that saves the live of just one burglar must be a good thing FFS

I think that these things have to be done as a publicity exercise every so often. Mostly they net only ex-service weapons from the first 50 years of the 20th century kept as souveniers. I believe in Machester a gun dealer did hand in his stash of over 300 guns !!. Now that is a result. But the other alarming issue is replica guns. I have extensive training in urban combat, I could not tell real from a replica in most cases unless you are holding the weapon. We are not talking toy guns here, but geniuine replicas. A 15 kid drawing a replica Browning 9mm automatic pistol would get taken down by lethal force in most scenario's, fact. I could go and buy that replica in my local buy and sell shop for around £50 with no problems today. There should be a ban on these replica comming into the UK and any genuine gun enthusiast should be licenced the same way a real gun owner is.

I hope nobody comes to take MY hand guns, rifles and shotguns away.
I have allways used them wisely.
Being a crippled old man makes me a frequent target.
There's a certain Home Invader that went out of business permanently due to my efforts.
Several more individuals, of questionable persuits, obeyed the law of the gun until authorities arrived.
Ask the poor victims in OZ how well things are now that the honest citizens are disarmed!
