Never quite understand why people hate the French so much in this country or is it just trendy to say so.
Myself I think its a wonderful place. Laid back , cheap beer,cheap wine and good food. What more could you want.Its also a damn site cleaner than the UK. And theyve got good roads,Oh and few Gatsos. Better weather. The Riviera. I could go on and on.

Paris is the dirtiets place I've ever seen and trust me I've seen some dirty places
We hate the French because we perceive them as being spineless, arrogant and smelly.........I'm sure we appear just the same to them apart from the spineless bit

On a scale of 1 to 1,000,000,000 what chance was there of a joint Anglo-Franco bid, rather than an expensive "competition" like this?

it's not the french per se. i love the country, the culture, the food, the weather, the people and you're always guaranteed a decent rack of top bollox in just about any french film.
it's the politicians that ruin the place: chirac and his gang of self-interested, crooked, venal cronies make me want to vomit into my own pants. even de gaulle was an ego-centric to55er; mitterand was the closest thing they have to a politician of respect.

Yep France is a top place, I do two holidays a year there... I have French freinds and they are the tops.
But if you generalise as a race I don't do a bundle, and like you say it's mainly down to the politicians..
That said who are the real fools????
They disobey virtually every EU law, often at our expense, and get away with it.
