Maybe so bros, but i think an ifluential monority of the British electorate are too shallow to worry about "minor" details like that, and will, as usual, focus much more than is justified on the personalities, and the ever-so-sincere Blair soundbytes.

The Tories' lack of an electable leader is in my opinion a much bigger handicap to their chances of re-gaining power.

Personally I think that both Labour and the Tories have shown themselves to be wholly incompetent and either out of touch with the people who elected them, or just not interested in their welfare. Both parties are chock full of egomaniacs interested in nothing but lining their own pockets and boosting their own feelings of importance. I don't want either of them in power.

I say we go with the Brewster's Millions 'None of the Above' campaign.

AFAICS most politicians are totally self-interested, greedy, unscrupulous and in many cases just corrupt. No wonder the general population is following suit in just looking out for themselves and adopting a 'sod everyone else' attitude.

I think their biggest fault is a lack of integrity as people.Having said that there is no other option.Someone has to be in power and making decisions.

For my part i think Tony Blair is doing an okay job.I'd give him 6.0 out of 10.

SS, don't understand what you mean - why wouldn't i be serious? All i'm saying is that personally i hope it's a sign of decreasing support for Labour, a party i have no vested interest in. Nothing wrong with that as an opinion is there?

No, not everyone. Not me for one. But you'd agree that in general lack of respect for other people and their property is on the increase? You only have to consider the number threads on subjects like someone hit my car and didn't leave a note, children damaged my car/property and their parent's didn't want to know, I saw someone steal a handbag and the police say they can't do anything, and similar, to realise that this country is getting to be in a very bad way indeed.

Edit: consider normally has an 'n' in it

Hands up those who remember "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister"...

I believe them to be reasonably accurate - it's the civil service that's the problem - leading the politicians astray...

3 main parties and none of them viable. A number of others inclduing the worrying BNP.

I cannot recall the country hoinestly being in a worse state in all my 32 years than it is today. I've seen crime go up, services collapse, roads are a disgrace and a danger to life and yet I;m paying about 30% more than I was a couplle of years back.

Blair can't even lie well ! Jeesus its scary when you think Thatcher could do a better job. This government has passed some of the most right wing laws for ages.

Sooner they are out the better but who the hell would we vote for. Does anyone know the policies of the other parties. I don't and thats the problem, too much spin not enough substance.

My vote has always been with the tories. People who vote for the BNP are in the same mental capacity of children in the remedial classes. You know, the 21 year old still stuck in the third grade..

Before I get accused of bias, let me say that I am apolitical and will always vote for the party which I think will support the Country and do its best for the good of the Electorate.

I agree with most of what TK says. The political leaders we have in most echelons of power are largely there to benefit themselves and to achieve the most powerful positions they can. I don't need to be cynical to believe that because I only have to look at events for several years back. We are moving towards complete globalisation of the World's economy and the enormously powerful companies involved in this are being pandered to at every step by our political leaders. The eventual result of this will be World Government and a first step towards that is to get this country into the Euro and then a federalised Europe. Our present leaders are looking to achieve strong personal positions in European government and have no significant regard for the welfare of the British electorate. There is no effective control of immigration in this country. We are already grossly overpopulated and the British taxpayer's money is being given away to the illegal immigrants as well as medicare as a priority over the British peoples. Law and Order is a joke! The criminal is now protected and effectively encouraged to continue with his nefarious activities while law abiding citizens are thrown to the wolves. The taxpayer pays the overblown salaries of the government advisors (Spin Doctors) so that they can tell us lies about what the government is doing. Our Forces are starved of equipment and sent off to fight overseas. They get praised while they are at war and after they have done an immensely professional job to save the Governments skin they are kicked up the backside and treated like something the dog brought in! Dangerous practises are rife because it saves money. MMR vaccines, genetically modified food, vaccines containing mercury compounds, evil pollutants in our rivers, radioactive compounds in the Irish Sea, attempts to hide the dangers of BSE, these and more can be laid at the feet of recent governments. The excuse is always that"there is no evidence of danger" when it should be that there is "evidence that there is no danger". There is a big difference here. When we see these practises, how can politicians expect to hold any kind of street cred. any more?

The last Tory government rightfully lost all credibility because of the behaviour of members of the government with "money for questions" and other examples of sleazy goings on. The Country thought it was time for a change and the present leaders profited by it. At least the Tories had got the economy into a position where it would improve after the world recession. New Labour did nothing more than give control of the Bank Rate to the Governor of the Bank of England. The present government fell on their feet as far as the economy was concerned. It has been also able to do what it liked with such a large majority, a dangerous situation for the Country.

Should World Government ever arrive, our lives will never be the same. We will be run by "control freaks" with no recourse such as being able to vote them out of power. Whatever we do will be dictated to us and we won't be able to move without permission. The thought of it is a nightmare and I for one hope it never happens.

Bros, are you serious when you say you could not live on a salary of some £87,000 when £30,000 is not even taxed?

'Popeye

An MP's salary is £55k per annum. And no, I couldn't live on it.'

And all the perks an Mp gets you're prob looking at a six figure sum. Considering 95% of the population earn way below 55 grand a year, they manage.

But as you said YOU couldn't live on it, then i gather you're a bit of a Peter Stingfellow? Live it up Chappy!!!

You have a good point Billbill, but we have a hell of a headstart on you, and our lot are really looking hard for new methods to extract the stealth taxes.
