u do have to understand , we can make our own minds up their if we arent living in palestine, their kids get butchered day and night and they see if the israelis dont see the palestinians and their children as humans, palestinians feel the same and would inflict the same punishment on the people who oppress them and kill their children and bulldoze their homes while the whole democratic world watches and says nothing to them.


when the superpower the usa condemn palestinians but say nothing to israel, of course the palestinians feel they are alone and no one is gonna do them justice and no one is gonna protect their kids, as the israelis kill the palestinian children, they believe they have the right to inflict the same atrocity on the oppressers even if its wrong

its a sad circle

but when your kids get butchered and f-16's blowing them apart u wont see the oppressors kids as humans either

It is difficult of course for we Westerners to understand the mindset of the suicide bombers. Firstly I do not believe that any of the mainline religions would teach that their followers should go out and murder innocent people in the name of their religion. All religions have a pretty strict way of life laid down and part of that will be to protect the religion from others who may wish to destroy it. Much the same way as our country expects us to go to war if we come under attack to save the country. It is acceptable to kill to defend your own country or your own life if you are under murderous attack. I use the term "defend" advisedly.

I believe that the suicide bombers are usually young people who have been heavily influenced by strong personalities who have achieved positions of power in their own society and who are manipulating these young and easily led people for their own ends. These young people have been brought up in these beliefs from an early age and genuinely think that they have a duty to carry out these murderous attacks. If you train a person from an early enough age then those beliefs will be uppermost in their minds, probably for life. I have met enough people who have become over scrupulous in their religious beliefs and follow their religious dictats to incredible proportions. This is down to the persons concerned.

My point is that we should not attack the religions concerned so much as the evil people who use the religion as a way to influence followers to carry out actions which would not be endorsed under the basic teachings of that religion. Basic religious principals teach followers to live a good life and to behave properly towards others. There is nothing wrong with that and it is not right to blame religion for the world's troubles, only the people who take advantage of it.

Well said Les, that is my observation also.

The question is, "How do we rid ourselves of religious leaders that use their position for oportunistic purposes?"

I would include those on ministerial television as well as in the ultra conservatives that are creating such a negative influence on our world.

Absolutely right Billbill. It has always been evident throughout history that you find people who achieve a high degree of control or influence and use it for their own scurrilous ends. Fortunately so far, the people have seen through these people in sufficient time to avoid letting them get into a permanent position of power. Eventually things balance out and that is what we must hope for now.
