Presumably you're now going to explain how this is all another zionist/masonic plot, in league with the Vatican, to further opress Muslims all over the Iberian Peninsular. And then back it up with loads of dodgy URLs, of course.
Go on - you know you'll find 'em if you look hard enough...

don't forget - Tony Bliar is supposed to be a 'socialist'.....
Whoever was responsible for the bombings, no-one can argue that the act in itself appears to have overturned what was (according to the polls) a clear lead for the Popular party.
and - it looks like the new spanish prime minister will underline his committment to 'oppressing' muslims all over the Iberian peninsular by pulling spanish troops out Iraq. How's that for a bit of oppression?

Bad news. This will be seen as a 'victory' for terrorism. How a terrorist act can bring down a government bla.. bla.. bla.

FFS - do you people not listen?
we already have a socialist government in the UK. They're called the Labour Party.
However, we all know they're about as socialist as Maggie Thatcher. The point I'm making is that just because someone is labelled a 'socialist', doesn't mean they are...or that anything will change.
And UB - the spanish government seem to have brought its demise upon itself - by repeatedly claiming that the bombing was the work of ETA, despite being faced with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

No, I don't think that. What I think *is* required right now is strong leadership. All democracies should stand firm against these people. This new government is already saying they will pull their troops out of Iraq. If this happens it will be a clear victory for the bombers. This is going like clockwork for them ATM. It's really very bad news, the Spanish people are playing right into their hands.

Our correspondent says the late swing to the Socialists raises one disturbing thought - if al-Qaeda was responsible for Thursday's attacks, it appears to have had significant influence in changing the government of a leading Western democracy.

you can't argue with how the spanish electorate voted. as far as I'm aware, it was a fair election and they exercised their free will.
it wouldn't be the first election that didn't go the way that everyone expected, but bear in mind that 90% of the spanish population were against involvement in Iraq anyway, so if you look at it that way, then the result is not really a suprise....

moses - best thing you can do is try to ignore it.
if the mods are any good, and if they really do read all the posts, then they will edit it.
if they don't, then at least you know where you stand

Lord Shrek, put yourself in moses shoes for just a second. Now imagine hearing lots of tired old cliches and stereotypes verging on the xenophobic. Still as funny now is it ?
As a Welshman I forget how many times I've heard moronic jibes aimed in my direction about sheep sha**ing. And every person who says it thinks they are the first one to think of such a witty remark. It wears very thin.
The mods want to close this forum because of threads descending into personal insults. Perhaps you should not pour petrol onto the flames ?
Looks like Unclebuck has edited out the offending comment (unless it was the mods). moses perhaps you could remove the s-o-a-h comment as it doesn't add to the quality of the debate.
EDITTED to say, beaten to the punch ! Let's move the discussion along eh ?

Did the terrorists change the minds of the Spanish electorate, or did the outgoing government really **** it up by trying to hoodwink the populous for the sake of an election result ?
I think that al Qaeda will make political capital from it whatever the truth is. It will be a real slap in the face for the Americans to lose what was previously such a staunch partner in the "war on terror".

I see what UB is saying, but... If a new government came to power in the UK tomorrow, say the LIb Dems (completely unrealistic I know), I'd say the vast majority of the poulation would want the UK to pull out of Iraq and would be quite happy for this to take place immediately, especially after Madrid.
Whether this is bowing down to terrorism or not I dont think we can achieve anything meaningful by dabbling further in Iraq. Its an insurmountable task and I doubt we have the long term will to take it on. The stable door has been thrown wide open without any thought of how we might ever round up the horses.
I was always against the war, and afaic nothing has been achived that will help the fight against terrorism in the UK or anywhere else for that matter. If anything it has caused further hatred of the west and the UK in general and has led to an increase in terrorism throughout the world.
After Madrid I wouldnt feel easy about working and travelling in London, not for either the immediate or long term future. Nothing anyone can do can predict or prevent the inevitable consequences of Bliar and Bush meddling with Iraq. Blairs spineless **** kissing has already caused the loss of UK lives and the way things seem to be heading it will only get worse. A great leader would never have taken us to war on such trumped up reasons in the first place.

And UB - the spanish government seem to have brought its demise upon itself - by repeatedly claiming that the bombing was the work of ETA, despite being faced with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
It's very odd to see that the Spanish government didn't take the option to cancel the election in the light of the train bombings, as it was inevitable that this single issue would overshadow all others in the minds of voters. However, they certainly did f**k themselves up with the ETA claims. Wonder if it was really an attempt to claim political advantage that then spectacularly backfired...?
