^^^ so true ..

Despite Gadaffi's *ahem* 'chequered' past, keeping him on-side will be a great PR coup. Firstly and of course most importantly, are the oil deals and all the associated palm-greasing.
Secondly it can show that 'rogue states' (ie. countries who don't like the US and the UK) need not just be flattened with cluster bombs if they agree to denounce international terrorist organisations. I'm sure that a very tempting package of international aid and trade deals (and possibly a supply of tasteful shirts for the man himself) has been arranged and that the Coalition is seeking to show other nations how nice they can be if they just toe the line.
I'm also quite sure that the Coalition will have inserted a 'we reserve the right to bomb you and change your regime' clause should things go pear-shaped.

Interesting to hear that a delegate of Special Branch and Murder Investigators are travelling to Libya next week futhering the investigation into the murder of the lady PC shot outside the Libyian Embassy 10 years ago.

I can't believe that people are so cynical as to believe this is all about oil.

After all, a poll 4 years ago of the leading oil exploration companies voted Libya as the area most likely to yield major reserves in the next decade. Pure coincidence.

So Mr Gaddafi, who himself was militarily trained by the Brits, now enjoys the rest of his army being trained by them. Cool. We can really ramp up the Libiyan military machine - just like it was done with Iraq.

Quite frightening how narrow viewed and cynical all these posts are.

No wonder the world's so screwed with such pessimism and doubt..

It would be a completely pointless excercise to debate the wider issues with any of you, as they wouldn't even get off the ground..

A fine example of an intellectually honest attitude; not to mention the art of debating and non-judgemental open-mindedness

On this particular issue, you all set the scene, which WAS narrowly focussed and devoid of alternatives.

My open mindedness about the issues raised meant that I could see the futility in raising any points on the subject, where they would no doubt be shot down without a second thought.

It is this second thought that distinguishes the openminded, from the closed.
Of course, I may not have given you the chance to prove how open minded you are (as we are talking about one subject), but the responses below told me everything I needed to know.

Alan, if you're looking to debate the issues, why not post rather than just dismissing the idea?

There will always be those that are quick to shoot down ideas, and there are many others that will enter into a debate. It's Scoobynet

Moses, you're too kind! I must put you on my Christmas card list..

Brickboy, you miss my point. I'm not dismissing this at all. I wish this had all started from an 'Open' persepective, not a closed one.

Put simply guys I get the feeling that, from your posts below, you are all too narrwow minded and too quick to cynically dismiss a visit with obviously more issues than just Oil and personal greed.

And as this is Scoobynet, I feel that this is another subject that is far too big to be debated over a few posts. Plus, there's no beer involved!

I'm questioning the WAY you went about answering the question, not having a go at WHAT you have to say.. yet..

Ok. Last on the subject. Listen and learn

We have very little information to go on. Us meer mortals have so very little information to go on. I'd rather base my postings on a little more substance than 24 hour old Chip paper and TV reports.

The guy's not even stepped off the plane and people are dismissing the trip for all sorts of reasons.

Can't we just wait to make an informed judgement after we get more infomation, or see the positives, or negatives from this trip? Why do we have to constantly run on heresay, rumour and baseless facts? Then post like we know everything?

It might turn out to be one of the greatest breakthroughs in the middle east. That's good isn't it?

It might turn out to be one of biggest blunders (remember Clement Attlee and that paper from Hitler?). That's pretty crappy isn't it?

See, two sides of the story. But each as true as the other.

Ok Andrew? Are you with the progrramme now?

er, I think so.

So your view is: "it could be good - it could be bad"

Heaven help you if you ever had to make a decision

For clarity I'll repeat my views: Blair is nothing more than an illuminati poodle. Gadaffi presides over one of the biggest oil reserves on the planet. They've been thrown together. Blair doesn't like it (you could see it in his face) and neither does the mad dog Colonel. But they're both stuck with it.

The USA guaranteed its medium term oil supply by bombing the crap out of the Iraqis. We've ensured ours by pretending that a deranged autocrat is actually a reformed character.

LOL

Im trying to take this seriously
and I realise that this Blair whitch project may have a hidden motive (or perhaps not so hidden),but guys look at the thread starter....its hilarious..hahaha...

Oh yeh,I think Gadaffi is doing the right thing with all the disarming of WOMD etc.
If Sadam had welcomed the US in to take what they want as they please then he may have had a little something left for his retirement.
I know its a sad remark but lets face it,if the US want to go any where at this moment they only have to say words like terrorism or Al quaeeda and it becomes a legit pass to enter and destroy as they please.
Who can stop them?
Maybe president Blair?
Dont think so ,hes the one carrying the luggage on.

I must give credit to T Blair for ignoring everyone in the country he runs (and following the leader from a different country),and just doing what he wanted to do .And to word it in such a way that it almost sounds like its worth wile.

One thing I learned in school is,When the bully hits you and tells you to stay away from his girl ,screem like a girl and tell him you wont ever look at her again ,so that he stops, later on you can meet his girl behind the bike sheds where no one can see ,and everyones happy.

If some of the others could just start playing ball by the so called rules then at least there wouldnt be so many red cards (talking about bombings).

He HeHe Wa ha HA .....Tiny Blurr oh a classic
