My WRX has just had its 10,000 mile service and I wondered if all Scooby main dealers charge £50/hour for labour?
Seems a bit expensive compared to the Vauxhall and Volkwagen rates I'm used to.
Thanks,
Richard.

Official Dealers should charge nothing. They do nothing to warrant that kind of cost, I suppose they charge such figures to cover up for all the, nevermind.... True performance specialists however charge the going rate £40-£50 Per Hour.
How much do Power Engineering charge for example? (inc VAT)?

Of course you will pay a premium for chief mechanics that work on cars, though this goes for all walks of life.
Would you want to pay say £40 quid for some spotty teenager working on your car with limited Subaru knowledge or £50 quid for an experienced mechanic with x years of Subaru hands on experience?

No I was talking in general.............
In my experience of owning cars and from others stories for instance a family member takes their car to lexus, which charges more to service than a Jag dealer.
Though on your return the service manager comes out to tell you how its gone with the car, you get a mechanics report on your car, you see them remove the plastic seat liner, the car has been valeted, even in the boot, white grease all round....it looks great
Now for that service I and many friends would pay a premium price, the service is fantastic!

get real guys £50 per hour what planet are you on!!!
a certain scooby main dealer wanted £411 inc vat for a cam belt change
£ 100 for the belt
needed car for 3 hrs (book time 1.7) this equates to £103 per hr labour
I wouldnt mind £40-50 per hr

ICME guidlines say around £25 p/hr for labour rates. My local garage fitted my brakes and charge £25+VAT per hour. They deal with lots of jap cars (Impreza's, Supra's, CTI-R's, etc..) so I had no problems with them doing the work.
My dealer would charge funny money for the same job and I'm not convinved the do any better (or worse for that matter). Just because they charge over twice the rate doesn't automatically mean they'll do a better job or guarantee you'll get their chief mechanic working on it.
As far as taking care of your car, I would expect any garage to treat my car well and I don't think we should be asked to pay a premium for that. It's down to the individual garage owner/manager to set precedents and it shouldn't take some fancy forecourt or high prices to expect a decent level of service.
