Itll be cheaper to buy an early UK ECU and fit it into that. The Early ECUs have the required socket already attached so you can fit the ESL chip into it yourself and then swap the ECUs over yourself.

It doesnt; thats my point. Im saying that it is easier and cheaper to buy a low-value early UK ECU (£50 or there abouts, a Z4 only costs £65 now), because that does have the required socket already fitted.

my point was to check the ecu first just incase a previous owner had it chipped hence the socket would be there
you dont want to spend fifty notes just to find out you didnt have to

proud owner of the original scooby ecu

Stew if you want the socket fitting by post I'd rather it came to me. We offer a guarantee that it will work and if I duff the job up (not that I ever have done), you get another ECU out of me. I've had one case where a 3rd party installation was botched and the installer blames the daughterboard, your ECU expansion port is no use anymore, you have limited recourse and I get shouted at for something that is out of my control.
The daughterboards are subject to 100% test before they go out of the door, so I know they work before they leave me.

Hi Simon
The cost of a socket fitment is £50 including return postage. I keep a spare ECU on hand in case of an issue, though I've not had one so far. The ECU is tested with a board in a pre96 car before being returned.
Mods this is a response to a direct question, I'm not trying to advertise but if it breaches a guidleine please edit/delete as required.

Sorry Stew I thought you were familiar with the system;
You insert it into the socket of the exchange ECU I send you. I should have a spare ECU early next week. Email me for more info, I'm not comfortable discussing prices etc on here as I'm not an authorised advertiser.

Or you can get someone that is good with a soldering iron to fit the socket for you and then just plug the board in and snip the link yourself.
A decent TV / Hifi Repair shop can do this..
I also have never had any problems fitting sockets and Ive done hundreds![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
