Can anyone help me find out how to check the history of an imported MY96 WRX STi, outstanding finance, stolen car etc as I'm just about to buy one this week, but I have just been burned by the dealer who sold me my UK turbo, turns out after the girlfriend wrote it off the insurance company tell me that there is still someones £3500 debt to pay on the car, so It comes out of my insurance payout. I know I should have done an HPi check but the garage is next door to me in a tiny village in scotland so I trusted the guy! Any advice on tracking down the history of an import that has just arrived in the last few weeks would be appreciated........Thanks.

Do you mean that the car is arriving from Japan in a few weeks?
If so the HPI check will tell you nothing.
except- This vehicle is recorded as being imported
You will have no history of the vehicle in Japan
However, if you mean that the import has been in the UK a HPI check will indicate most warnings.
Is the importer recommended to you? I would just advise caution. Due to the fact that there are quite a few damaged cars being imported, repaired and sold - be weary
