Default 6 speed dccd swap into uk classic without r180 shenanigans

Hi all,

I'm looking to swap a TY856WG7KA into a 97 uk classic impreza, I already been through a P1/STIV and uk box so need something a bit stronger. I don't want to have to swap rear or front hubs etc. Is it difficult to swap the CWP out of an open 3.9 rear diff into one of the diffs I have kicking around here?
so just to confirm without swapping hubs I will need:

3.9 rear diff
Auto-prop(will one off a legacy fit?)
box,cradle linkage...
front shafts? if they are female im ok other wise a conversion kit?
starter motor(Do I need this?)
flywheel and clutch.....

I did read on NASIOC they were on about driveshaft kits that allowed r180 rear diffs to be mated to r160 hubs? anyone heard of that?

Thanks for any help

Steve

Its a UK box so needs a 3.54 rear diff, you can use an r160 from any UK classic to give you the correct ratio. Auto prop from a classic is fine, not sure if a legacy one will for the front shafts you will need a sub axle conversion, if using your 5 speed clutch and flywheel you wont need the 6 speed starter but if using a 6 speed on then you will

Thanks Banny appreciate similar questions been asked a million times before.......I read on an old 22b thread that it was 3.9 final drive....fine 3.54 thats better for me....yeah just checked I thought for some reason the front shafts were female normally on classic boxes, they are male so will have to get a conversion kit.....£125 seems pricey but there you go......this what i need right? http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/part...ey=&searchPart=
I have just bought a new 5 speed clutch and flywheel just before it let go (typical) is there much difference? I'm trying to do it on the cheap so I might just go with it.......

Looking at the kit does gearbox have to be taken apart? I take it the stubs out of my old box won't fit?

correct 3.9 final drive 1:1:1 drop gear giving a rear diff ratio of 3.54 nah you dont need to strip the box to add the stub shafts in they have pins and circlips to lock them in place and that is the exact kit I used from ICP when I did my conversion.

The 5 speed clutch will be fine as long it matches your power goals, no reason to swap to a 6 speed at all imo

Oh another quicky can i use my old short shifter or does the entire lot need swapping, I understand the linkage has to be swapped but not entirely sure whether that includes the gear stick itself iyswim.....and the pitching stop mount, is it worth upgrading that?

Nope should all work with the 6 speed, the early pre my99 block were 4 bolts and the post 99 gearboxes inc 6 speed are 8 bolt but does not affect fitting.

You need to use the full 6 speed linkage inc stick cant use the 5 speed one as it is different and doesnt have the reverse lock. Yes it is worth upgrading the pitch mount especially if yours is old, the group n one is a nice compromise between compliance and stiffness

Thanks again Banny...yeah been seeing a few group n pitch mounts on ebay.....people saying the solid ones are too noisy.....I like my dog bones to be compliant yet stiff
