Clutch seems to squeak/whine in first or second gear after its warmed up and when doing a lot of town driving.
It does it at the biting point
Amazingly 2 dealers say they have no idea!!!!!!!!!!!
Can anyone advise what this may be and more importanly how expensive it might be.
Doesnt seem to affect the driving experience. Its just unnerving

I had this.....only when queueing...after a few mins of intensive nose to tail the clutch would hum/sing/screech for a few seconds as you got to the biting point......I waited until next service & dealer fitted a new clutch under warranty. The problem, once it was removed, was obvious - the clutch release bearing was rusty!
- There was rust dust inside the race - so the race was dry & vibrated.
Fit a new bearing & all will be well - unfortunatley this is a gearbox out job!![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

i've got this screeching noise on my my00 (18000miles) ijust came to the conclusion it was clutch related i.e. release bearing over the weekend. i'd checked all the usual suspects , belts/pumps etc, just have to live with it for now!! it does sound a bit embarassing sometimes though.

Yeah it does sound preety embarrasing.
My noise has been going on for about 1.5 years now![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I think rather than shell out a load of money, I would like to live with it.
I was just paranoid that it was doing permanent damage

RayT - my car had done a similar mileage - 99MY when the noise started. It had a new warranty clutch at the 22.5K service.
The dealer never even quibbled - he said he had seen a few!
I drove mine for a approx 4K miles like it as I had guessed what it was - my only slight concern was that it may seize the bearing - but this is unlikely - it would sound a lot worse before it did that! - so if you can't afford it it should just keep humming away to itself - it does get embarassing though - I had my mother & father in the car one day and it started to do it in a huge tailback on the motorway - my dad said 'I thought these Subaru's are never supposed to go wrong......!'
What can you say!
