Question

Finally got round to fitting my Phantom Boost Gauge. It measures -30 to +30 psi.

When the engines off it's at 0 obviously

Idling it shows -20.

~ Half throttle it's back to about 0

Full throttle 5th gear it hits 14psi at first but then settles down to 13psi. But by this point I'm hitting 110 and rising rapidly so I have to back off.

Is 13psi correct for an MY97, Standard barring an ITG panel filter, baileys atmos DV & BPM twister2 backbox.

I've fitted the boost gauge as a precursor to a Dawes and AFR so I need to be sure that I'm starting off on the right foot

Yep. My standard MY97 was boosting at 11psi when I fitted the boost guage. Cleaned out the boost solenoid and it then peaked at 14 and held 13psi.
Currently running 15psi held with Dawes, can't say I notice that much difference but hopefully a decat downpipe should sort that out

Cheers Jamie!

Guess mine is correct then

Bit upset that you haven't noticed a big difference after using the Dawes though as I was hoping to have a noticable difference.
Did you chance upping it to 16psi? oh and did you bother with an air/fuel meter?

Thought about a decat downpipe or centre section but just too worried about MOT failure to consider it.

Matt,
I think the boost comes in quicker so it's probably a psychological thing . I know it is quicker as I join a nearby motorway 10mph quicker than I did b4 the dawes was fitted (obviously I used to join it a 60mph ).
Plus I get used to things really quickly! I haven't got an AFR (yet)but I don't think I am being silly with the boost at the moment - I've read posts of standard UK Turbos holding 15psi .
I accidently hit fuel cut when setting the Dawes up so and it felt fast at 16psi so I think I might have a play when I get the AFR.
See this thread for Dawes info, and if you're worried about downpipes and MoTs look at this thread.

Have fun
Jamie

-20 PSI at idle seems very low - would expect approx -9 or 10.

Fuel Cut is at approx 15.5 PSI - should see quicker spool up with dawes.

On TD05 Cars you get more benefit from fast spool up than peak boost - although with the dawes boost will be a lot more stable.
