Moe, they are loads of cash.... I can get a 9 litre tank from Demon for £103. I am not paying an extra 170 for 3 more litres!

Need to pay for water injection with that change!

Plantie,
I am also interested in a alloy water tank for my Link water spray and future WI, so if you can get a discount if you requested 2 of them, give me a shout!
I was looking for a tank mounted in the middle of the boot floor space, butted up against the rear seats. I am not sure if the weight of 9-14L of water on one side of the boot is a good idea, ie. the Forge/MRT ones and they are a bit on the expensive side anyway.
If you have got time, send me a mail on djacks11@ford.com to discuss.

Cheers, Jacko.

if you want to get the forge one and all the bits you need ni place and ready for water injection or water spray, drop me an email, and I will point you in the right direction.

IIRC it is a considerable saving!!

Just spoke to Dicky at Brookwood Motorsports (they run the UK Rally Championship winning Subaru for the last 3 years)

And he told me that I will need to run de-mineralised water in it or it will rust my engine... also he said that an alloy tank would contaminate the water doing the same again. He suggested a Carbon fibre tank or a plastic washer type one...
This is what he and WRC teams use.

Any thoughts??

DJ.. agree with the weight comment..

boiled water would do for the WI.

any rust deposits inside the engine would be burned off if they had time to form,

bearing in mind water injection only operates when on boost.

and only cylinder liners and pistons are steel (maybe valves) all the rest is aly (ie manifold etc).

not sure about alloy tanks being a problem.

aluminium tanks will by their nature be coated with aluminium oxide as bare aluminium is highly reactive. reactive materials prodice very stable compounds and this oner forms spontaneously in air.

I cant see how it could separate itself from from the aluminium in order to harm the engine.

consider that coca cola etc is kept in aluminium cans.

lol @ Mark and Bob!

I have spoken to a company about a tank which is used in the Cosworths.... cant remember what it is made of though Black Glass fibre?? maybe??? doh!

The man is due to call me back towards the end of the week with the exact capcity and dimensions.... apparently it is a triangle/pyramid shape... Now we may may need to make a bracket as this was designed with the cossie in mind.

Price wise it is under £100 !!

Once I have more details I will post again... with a few interested we could do a group buy and get it even cheaper !

lol @ me!

true I forgot rings. and our pistons are ally. but then only the top ring is likely to be seriously affected as the volume of charge that gets between them surely isnt very significant?

at least I was caught out by the best, hey bob?

and I genuinely wasnt sure about valves (since found out they are usually stainless - from a book not mark or pat) I am guessing steel because of the pressures and heat they have to withstand, but then weight is a consideration. This one I genuinely dont (didn't) know.

I am also planning on fitting water injection to my RB5. Why do you want the tank in the boot? I was hoping to be able to fit it under the bonnet somewhere. The STi's that had an intercooler spray, where did they have the tank?

Cord the New STI7 has its tank in the boot.... that is a product we are looking at as well

More capacity in the boot...

There are two of us looking to put a tank where the spare wheel is... I have the Alcon break upgrade so I couldn't use it anyway...

Plantie, you can use it, you just move back to front and put the spare on the back.

The standard water spray tank on some stis was in front of the front right wheel arch where "lesser" stis had their abs module.

It only held 4 litres which would disappear in abotu two laps on track.

Adam, had that conversation with Moe about the spacer should of thought of that! Too much like hard work though!

I was referring to the Water Spray tank of the STI 7 which is in the back.... not quite as big as I would like but an easy solution. Have posted in your Carbon fibre bits for it!

Cheers Plantie, in the boot sounds like the best option then. What water injection system are you using? I have put a couple of Aquamist systems in Skylines but they seem expensive for what they are. I have been attempting (unsuccesfully) to find out where they get their pumps from so I can buy one direct.

Just had a look at the MRT tank on the Scoodymania pages, and having measured my boot I reckon I am going to make one similar to theirs and stick it in the corner of my boot. Now I just need to find a cheaper pump.
