Remove the resonator and fit one - stop the K&N sucking in such dammed hot air Just wanted a picy to see what it looked like before I fabricate my own - the piping is a whole 4 quid from halfords

What he wants is a pipe that goes from the grill in the bumper through the resonator hole blowing cold air straight on to his K&N induction kit!

Jawa is being a tight **** and wants a picture so he can copy it!

Pay 60-100 quid for a cold air pipe, or buy some extendable metal ducting from halfords for 4 quid and do it yourself - wouldn't any sane person do the latter unless they had money burning a hole in their pocket!!

The 60+ quid saved will pay for a mini bonnet scoop to route in even more cold air to the induction

If you go the DIY route, Maplin sell "bass reflex tubes" for subwoofer boxes which work well as an intake bellmouth - £2.50 (QQ65V).



I fitted one to mine (Green Twister filter with their ducting kit) and used the 70mm one which fits nicely into the 80mm ducting - the vacuum at idle decreased by 2" of mercury (Autometer gauge).

Gavin - what do you use that for? Where would it sit in the system from the cold air intake in the bumper up to where it ends at the induction? Its a 57i........

you can get ducting hose from Halfords for £3.50 - I'll post a pic of it tonight when I get home...

Yes - the bellmouth sits in the wing as close to the front bumper as you can fit it.

Autospeed have a good article on this but it is unfortunately "members only".

Their testing showed a 25% increase in flow compared to a standard 3" bit of pipe when using a bellmouth.

What is the internal diameter of the halfords pipe ? It looks small from the photos above....

Bear in mind that the intake pipework is normally 80mm - 90mm - you don't want your intake sucking cold air through a straw!

Flow shouldn't be restricted much by the pipe, it will simply suplement the flow deficit by sucking warmer air in from behind the headlight.

Yep, sorry Moray - not very clear there - if the filter is not sealed then it will make up any deficit from under bonnet air.

The Halfords pipe looks like it is about 2" in diameter. If so, it will provide cold air for over half of the engine's requirements.

It all helps but bigger is definitely better! Maybe running two of the Halfords pipes is a better idea (if they will fit) ?

I think the stuff I got is either 80mm or 100mm so should be fine

its either 35mm or 40mm - its quite tight in there...if any difference, one I have noticed for sure is a 'wooooing' sound - perhaps air passing over the mess in the ITG panel filter?
