Just wondered, out of interest, what sort of speed do you get from an Impreza turbo (PPP'd or not) at 4000rpm in 5th....?

In my VR6 , if *cough* i drove it at 4000rpm in 5th gear on a *cough* private road then this equates to just under the 100mph mark.... with the redline being at 6.5 k rpm so a bit to go still....

at these sorts of revs, the engine isn't obviously being pushed that much....road noise makes most of the noise...

so how does a 2 litre turbo compare ???

any ideas ?

thanks

VR6man,

The question is:-

Does your car have the power/aerodynamics to redline in fifth?

Don't know whether my Scoob will.

Hey that brings back memories of a little 106 Pug I had (rallye) going to Weston for a cruise (sad now I know) 5 peeps in the car and I / we hit the rev limiter in top (fifth). bear in mind the rev limit was 7750rpm. redline was 7500rpm we topped 130 could'nt feckin believe it.

EDIT: poor little 1300cc had it's ******* ramped out of it

What does the PPP have to do with it? Is it not about the gearing???

BTW, STi in top (6th ) will do 100 @ 4000rpm (running in revs ). Does about 80 @ 4000 in 5th....

My RA has very similar gearing to a new STI except I have reverse where the STi has 6th .

The PPP is a remap for the ECU so it changes the boost and fueling parameters but wont affect gearing. An RB5 with a PPP, performance wise is the same as a UK MY99 with a PPP.

ok thanks for the info so far, what about the turbo then (i know nowt about scoobies so be gentle!!)

what rpm does it spin up at... and how does it's speed vary ? is that what defines the "boost" it runs at i.e the faster it spins, the more boost it provides ? i guess that would make sense.....hmmm.... can you confirm / clarify this for the benefit of my non-turbo-or-subaru-or-anything-car-and-technical-knowledgeable self !!!!!

So VR6man, which VR6 do you have? Golf, Corrado, (old) Passat, or even Sharan?

std RB5 (well mine anyway) around 120 @ 4000rpm in 5th. Had over 140 on the clock before anything nasty and red on the rev counter

Stefan (all conducted on my own personal private road and all speeds indicated on the clock)

Blimey Ozzy - that's 30mph per 1,000rpm in top. My standard MY02 WRX wagon is just a bit less than an indicated 25mph. Ie, 100mph would equal 4,000rpm.

Are you sure Mate?? And if so, how's your speedo??

Sorry Harry, just sat in the car and it must have been 5000. Don't really pay much attention to the numbers, just how far the needle is around the clock. 4,000 is far too near the top for 120mph.

Speedos fine, just my eyesight

Stefan

Hmmm well i dont know about other RB5's but i would assume they are all the same as they share exactly the same gearbox's, but mine is exactly 100mph @ 4000rpm in 5th gear, redline is at 7000rpm and i've had mine @ 160 just below redline think it was something like 6750rpm.

Hope this helps.
