GREY SMOKE!!!
#1
ok, so ive fitted the apexi avc-r boost controller, and also wired in the loom for the s-afc fuel controller, but however not plugged the unit in yet.
the avc-r however is plugged in and have set it up, but not had time to fine tune. therefore, ive just been tootling around off boost, and only as much as 0.5bar boost occasionally.
when i drove off in first, and changed gear, quite a bit of smoke came out of the exhaust, looks grey from inside the car.
thought nothing of it.
this morning, backed off from say 2500rpm in second, went round the corner, and when i gently accelerated again, out came quite a lot of grey smoke again.
continued to look, and its smoking quite a bit
there sounds like there is an exhaust gas leak up by the top of the up-pipe too, its like a chuffing noise, not very loud.
any ideas??
cheers, ian.
p.s. factory boost solenoid is disconnected (apexi has its own) if that makes any difference

further note:
although ive wired in the loom for the s-afc, there are no cut/disconnected wires. all wires are just spliced onto orignals.
also, yes i double checked all wires are in the correct places and that they are secure.
thanks

Is your AFC wired the same as mine??? You say it is not plugged in?? This would bring the CEL on. It may be a dodgy MAF signal due to the fitment ( if incorrect maybe ) causing overfuelling??
Smoke of any colour aint good, but excess fuel sounds likely here. I do remember a while ago, the positions you had for the DIP switches was exactly the opposite to what I had..

hi mate,
i havent got the old style afc anymore, ive got the new ones, they dont have any dip switches.
overfuelling does sound likely doesnt it, especially as it is smoking during backoff/gearchange etc.
im gonna plug the unit in this eve maybe and go and try for smoke again.
i dont suspect any engine damage as it runs perfectly quiet and smooth. i'll let you know how it goes mate.
cheers
