Is it possible to self-fit the ECU, plumbing, mid-section, and restrictor for an MY01 PPP ?
I seem to remember something about the keys/fob having to be reset at a dealers to match the code on the new ECU.
Anyone had experience of buying/fitting an MY01 PPP 2nd hand?
Much appreciated,
Squizz.

There is one particular potential problem with this. The ECU is not a complete replacement one with the MY01 > WRX PPP, but has a piggyback board fitted to the existing ECU. ECU's were supplied on an exchange basis by SUK dealers with a £1000 surcharge on old units. So, unless you have the donor and recipient cars side by side and swop the ECU's from car to car, it can't be done.
Unless, of course, you already know this, in which case ignore me.

Go for it - you know you want to!
Seriously, D T-S is, as usual, correct. But, in this case he is making an assumption as to where you are getting the kit from and this may not be the case.
The PPP contains an extra board for the standard ECU, that as Dave states, is inserted into the ECU on an exchange basis when the kit is bought through a UK dealer. If you buy the kit from abroad, as some have done, then you need to get it fitted to your ECU which can be problematic. However, if you are getting your kit secondhand from somebody in the UK then you could just swap your non-PPP ECU with their PPP ECU, in which case the only thing you need to do is to get your car keys to be recognised by the ECU which can be done with a "Select" monitor at your friendly local dealers.
Fitting the rest of the PPP (centre pipes, restrictor, possibly backbox) is dead easy.

Unless i'm mad - theres only one chip in the WRX PPP swap - they take your old one away. Thats why you need the keys reprogramemd to the new ECU. Its not a "piggy back" thing at all!!!!
Thats why you dont see any MY01 PPP's for sale - cause if the owner does remove it - his car wont work!!!

Hmmm, this could be tricky then... Sounds like the exchange will have to be done at a dealership that is willing to re-program both(?) sets of keys.
Luckilly, my old MY99 doesn't have this problem if/when I get a PPP.

The PPP is a piggy back chip, but it is fitted by an external company and supplied as a sealed box to SUK dealers. In Europe, you can just buy the piggy back (approx £800) but you have to solder it in yourself
You would indeed need both cars at a dealership to do the swap.

The Subaru dealers in Europe do not have to solder the boards in themselves.
All boards are installed by a technician within Subaru Benelux or Portugal etc who has been trained, and the ECU's are then exchanged as they are in the UK.
Also, you cannot buy just the ECU, they are only supplied as complete PPP's.
Nick.
