I have a Tek2 from ecutek and a fullflow exhaust I have now 1,1 bar
and would like to have 1,2 bar do you think I can raise of 0,1 bar by changing restrictor and would it still be safe( I'm in france and only running 98 unleaded) or should I get a Tek 3 remape

Thanks

Hi Fabien,

John's on holiday in Norway at the moment. Think he's due back on Sunday though.

I'll tke a stab at this.

Mid range boost target for Tek2 is 16 PSI so you are seeing what it is designed to achieve. Changing the restrictor for a smaller one will only increase the boost spike/overshoot of that target, the ECU will see the overshoot and pull the boost back to 1.1 Bar by increasing the duty cycle, you will see the overshoot, then it being pulled back to undershoot and then maybe raised again to the target 16 PSI.

No matter what you do the target is 1.1 bar, to get a higher held boost you will need the Tek3 or a boost controller that is not controlled by the ECU......

As mentioned above, the restrictor wont help with the held value. If you want the ecu to still control boost you'll need a remap.

You could also do this with a bleed, but it's obviously not ideal.

<blatant-plug> If you're interested in a remap on your tek2, and can get to Switzerland, we can do it for you - drop me an email

Fabien I could change your map to my Tek 2.5 which has a 17.7 PSI boost target. However, in the heat of France I am not sure I would really want to be running a lot more than Tek 2's target of 16 PSI. Perhaps you should look at a bigger turbo?

Changing the restrictor would give you a bit more held boost within reason and is worth a try - just don't make it so much smaller it fluctuates when cold. The ECU control of the boost is quite gentle - not an "iron fist" so you might get 17 PSI out of it, and certainly more in the lower gears.

A flow control valve can also help here - 1.1mm will probably be too small for the restrictor, but 1.15mm equivalent would probably give you a little nice extra bit.

Go for a Knocklink or similar if you are pushing the boost levels in your hot climate though.

Knocklink, since knock is what will destroy your engine, and is likely to happen well before it goes lean - because of too much ignition advance for the charge temp, boost level and exhaust back pressure. If the AFR is ideal you can still be detting.

I could increase the boost target and duty cycle a bit to my Tek 2.5 map for an upgrade of £150 - I just need the ECU, but can't guarantee what boost you will get on your car or your conditions - but certainly a fair bit more than Tek 2, and held for longer. I would suggest adjusting the wastegate or restrictors first to see what you can get out of it - you should be able to get 17 or so quite happily.
