i was wondering about fitting a larger compressor wheel and housing to my TD05 turbo?

what wheel/housing will be best?

i will run 1.5bar boost (keeping it reasonable this time ), want the maximum volume of air possible, and dont care about anything under 4000rpm due to gearbox.

thanks
ian

I think the commmon mods are the "big" 16g wheel or 18g.

there were some figures about, but the "big" 16g wheel was good for another 10% flow over stock I think, and lag is not much increased.

Mark gave me a price of £575 all in to rebuild and hybrid a td05 and do the front entry mod.

I would just get the front entry done to start with, and see what difference that makes, then you can up the compressor wheel when you have a bit more money etc. Andy F seems to think the front entry mod improved breating accross the range.

The custom front house is made by the guy who did the work on my turbo, he is one of New Zealand's leading turbo guru's who prepares alot of race cars, hes well know in the motorsport scene and has a reputation second to none. He gets his own compressor housings forged when I was getting miine modded he showed me the moulds for all the different housing that he makes. I will post some pics as soon as I have them available. I was recently speaking to my friend with the 25 g wheel and questioned him regarding lag he said there was no problems at all , he actually mentioned that he thought the spool up time was better than the original TD 05H turbo.

you need to have a look on the MLR forums, the evo guys nearly all run td05s of one sort or another.

18g wheel is good for 400hp I think, isn't that enough?

well, no, of course not!
