Thanks John. Suppose I should have read the "company" section of their website rather than just the bit about the ECUs!

Phil

edit - then all I need to do is learn to type straight!

The last I heard was that a 2002 WRX ECU had been flash reprogrammed on the bench... just boost control originally, then the fuelling, timing etc. Today I heard they are at the stage of doing live testing on the car.

I heard that today was the first live mapping they were doing - as in car on dyno being reprogrammed rather than on the bench. It is progressing well anyway.

I had a go in the +40lb/ft car - only boost maps had been tweaked. Nice brakes and suspension as well

Does that mean Steve will join the land-of-the-living soon?!

Having driven the car tonight and looked at the beta software I have to say its a very good start ... car is much more responsive and boost pickup is much better, we actually flashed the original map followed by the revised map back to back with noticeable difference. All very good stuff indeed.

Question

Have I picked this up correctly...

Someone's re-mapping the standard WRX ECU?

Mr Banks, if you need a donor car for experimentation, you can have a go with mine.

Question

Could I go a bit off topic re:ECUTEK. I know John Banks maps it, and from this I can see Bob Rawle is a big player, and I also know Power Engineering at least act as a distributer . . but I'm confused as to how all this fits together? Who is ECUTEK?

From all the comments I've seen, I will be very keen to get my hands on one for my MY02 (Euro import, so short warranty anyway!) I know it's not available quite yet, but John is a bit far away, but I could easily drive to see Bob, or PE - where's best to get it done?

Ecutek as their website says www.ecutek.co.uk are three people - David Power, Mervyn Carroll and Stephen Done. They produce the technology to remap ECUs which they sell on to people like Bob, myself, Graham Goode, Richard Dowsett, Mark Verhoeven, MRT. Through PE they also custom remap some cars themselves. They also sell mail order ECUs. I gather they are spending increasing time on being a "solutions provider" for tuners like the above and doing a bit less mapping themselves. Bob www.brdevelopments.com offers a lot of other ECUs and other products and services as well and would be most suitable for you to approach. I only do Ecutek work at present - some postal work, but mainly custom mapping for Scottish and North of England customers, although some travel further that know me already.

Question

How much are we talking for a MY01 remap once it is available?

Does the car need to be rolling roaded?

Should other mods be done first i.e. De-catting?

Questions, Questions.....

I would imagine that the prices would be similar to the MY99/00. Decat helps. RR not necessary. If you do map on the rolling road you need to take it out on the road to finish the job. You can hold the car at one load position on the RR though which is nice, but also could be a bit artificial. Swings and roundabouts. I may team up with the local rolling road for before/after runs and a venue to meet, but doubt that much mapping will go on on the rolling road and it might restrict hours a bit which can be tricky when I do this work mostly out of office hours (which also suits most customers).

What scares me a bit is 20 odd replies, whilst probably 100's of people are shelling out for a PPP or jumping into 'xxx versus yyy' threads

Amazing.

I think a lot of people are simply waiting to see the results when its all sorted.

As soon as I get my de-cat sorted and the '02 remap is available its my intention to drive up to Scotland for John to do the business. Don't know him, but the comments from people who have and their recommendations is enough for me to give him my business.

Just hope he doesn't get too busy !

So there's a customer here waiting when your ready John...
Put me on your list (if there is one)
