Engine idle
#1
As far as I can see, my car engine runs fine under load.
(still waiting for a selectmonitor thing to test that...)
However, during idle (after the car is warm) it doesn't seem right.
The idle speed is 800-900rpm (as I would expect), but it seems to slow down and speed up (or misfire completely maybe) very slightly - this isn't noticable on the rev counter.
I replaced the plugs, and the car runs better under load now, but this hasn't changed the idle.
My next job is to try a replacement fuel filter. (it needs replacing shortly anyway...)
Am I being over sensitive, is it the first sign of the lamda sensor dying, or someting a bit more sinister?
TIA

mine does the same
idle control valve maybe?
seems its controlling it fairly well... but between a range.. not on the nose at a rpm...
i have replaced maf, plugs, and leads -still the same (tho maf was dying and it raised the idle a few revs)
still 'hunts' - u can feel it on the car, but hardly notice anything on the rev counter.
*might* be lamda sensor?
but it seems to me that this would be more noticable.

Lambda seems likely to me - as MAF is used under load & lambda when cruising (both at idle, I believe).
It could be broadly checked by fuel consumption - if it's up or down on normal (especially on motorway cruising) it would show a dodgy lambda. But only works if you've paid attention to mpg before
[edited as my spleling leaves rather alot to be desired]

I'll be getting my hands dirty tonight having a look at the idle valve now...
The others will have to wait until I get to a select monitor (should only be a couple of weeks...)
I haven't noticed any difference in the fuel useage, but then I don't follow it that much these days.
Grr. now the clutch feels like it's slipping Always something wrong...
