Unhappy

My car (MY95) has started making a loudish - weird ticking noise when you get around 2.5K revs & when driving. I think it's the wastgate solenoid as sometimes I've heard it as I stop as well.

You cant hear it above around 3K revs. I've tried revving (not high) the car with the bonnet open but it doesnt seem anywher as loud as when I'm driving. It does tick though.

Is there a way I can remove (safely) the solenoid for a short test drive to see if the noise is gone to determine if it IS that.

Yesterday I took it out & squirted carb cleaner into it & made sure it operates on a 12v supply & it does click but it hasnt cured it.

It only happens loud when moving, so with load on the engine, hence boost varies & solenoid gets affected - thats my train of thought but would appreciate any info or advice on curing this.

How much is a new one?

It has only started recently & I remember about a week ago stopping the car & hearing a ticking from it. Would it have worn inside causing a fluctutaion as I thought it was always oerated on the voltage supply & not by boost pressure in the pipes?

Any info appreciated as it bloody annoying.

Regards

Johny.

remove the pipe from the soleniod then put a screw in the pipe so it maintains the pressure but you will now have no boost cut off so if you put your foot down the fuel will cut off due to over boost but that will at least tell you if the ticking stops.

scrappy_doo,

Cheers for that. Do you mean the pipe going into the top of the - i.e. coming from turbo?

Can I unplug the solenoid then?
