Noisy Fan Belt
#1
With the arrival of the cold weather the fan belt on my 96 turbo has started to get noisy (screeching when cold), to the point where its getting embarrasing - sounds like a clapped out transit coming down the street. The belt was only replaced in the summer by my local Subaru dealer, so it shouldn't need changing.Does anyone know if there a simple way of re-tensioning belt and is any body else experiencing similar probs.

Firstly check the tension of the belt, you should just be able to twist the belt 45degrees on the longest part of the belt run.
if it is too loose then undo the locking bolt on the tensioner and then tighten up the tensioner bolt so that the belt is ok, then do the tensioner locking bolt back up..
However, if the belt is not loose then it has moisture on it and you need to spray some WD40 on the belt whilst the engine is running, this will disperse the dampness (which is more than likely the cause)....
