RA gearboxes?

I have a MY95 WRX - I'm interested in fitting a gearbox from an RA for the close ratios.
Are there any other components (rear diff? Centre diff?) that will also need changing?
Did all RAs have the same gearbox?
Is this just going to be a hugely expensive waste of money?
Cheers

yes it will bea hugely expensive waste of money.
you need to make sure you have the correct crownwheel and pinion on the rear diff as will be supplied in the fron diff.
This will either be 4.11 or 4.44,
you can always take it to pieces and count the teeth, or you could compare your ingear speeds with those of others on this board.
I suspect it will be a 4.44 final drive.
you will also need to know the final drive of the gearbox you have bought.
you can always strip it down and find out, but this wil cost money.
Hopefully the people yuou source it from can tell you in the first place.
If it comes from an sti type ra you may even be lucky and get the manually adjustable centre diff with it, but then youw ill need to somehow make certain opf the wiring. for this, ask pat as he has done it already in his!

from experience, the r/a box is excellent away from the lights and good on twisty tracks.
but its a pain in the **** on the motorway and at cruising speed ~ 5000rpm to do 80 ain't fun, and certainly is not a relaxing drive. fuel consumption is pretty appalling too.
wouldn't part with the box in my STi R/A though, even having said all that, but if I had a standard box i wouldn't bother changing it m8.
cheers,
simon
