I have a Jap Import 98 STI wagon and the speedo overreads both on the speed and mile counter I would say by nearly 20%.
I took the cheap option and thought it was the converter that may be faulty - had it changed but still no joy.
Garage reckoned it may need a new speedo head or cable - any clues here - are the speedo heads /cables the same as the uk cars? Do they fail ? Its only done 30000 miles could it be the gearbox ?
Has any one had similar problemn and successfully sorted - its just the hassel of the extra miles going on the odometer and inaccurate speed that annoys me intensley

Hmm, I've got a problem with my speedo too. It goes up but takes forever to come down. It seems that someone else has a speedo related problem too in Gen Tech.

Yes, all those mechanical convertors are a bit out. I've tried them all they're all the same. What i normally do to compensate the over correction is to take the speedo needle out and reset it close to zero (i.e normally its nearer the 20 mark than 0 mark). Done this all imports and confirmed the results on SVA stations rollers. Needles taking forever to come down are a result of needles being put back too tight, take out needle and replaced gently. Jobs done.

If you need a new speedo head, I might be able to save you a long search.
It took me simply ages to find anyone who could find an import speedo head.
I finally was supplied one (and fitted) by Park Lane in Alton (top blokes).
I managed to swing it under warranty (is this a first for Warrany Holdings?).
BTW: My speedo had always been dodgy, flickering, overreading, and finally packing up completely at 50K miles. The new one has been superb and is only overreading by 3mph at 70 (verified via GPS and a police speed gun).
