buy a link ecu
,most I have seen are the opposite from this.
I doubt there would be a problem with a warm engine but possibly after the car has sat over night and the oil has drained back to the sump, there might be oil starve for say 1/2 a second longer.
if you are that concerned, could you not put a switch in the cabin to the crank sensor for cold starts?,should be easier than changing the map.

How about - Insert key and immediately go straight to the 'start' position without hesitating at 'ign'. The fuel pump takes a second or two to build pressure and may just delay things ??

How about rescale the MAF curve to take 13% off ir accross the board?
There are 2 types of pre97 ecu code. One has a low fuelling constant and higher MAF curve. The other has higher fuelling constant, lower MAF curve.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the MAF is not referred to by the ECU for starting purposes. It can be unplugged and the engine will start exactly the same !!! Only after a few seconds running does it refer to MAF.

John, I can't see it having any real implications for longevity. The oil pump is not going to shift anything like a significant amount of oil in the "normal" 3-4 revolutions on the starter before the engine catches when starting from cold -- it will only start pumping when the engine has caught and idling.

Perhaps Andy. On the David's car with 550s, we had no such problems, as we adjusted the fuelling constant to take out most of the fuel. Should be worth a try though IMHO.
I think JB must be getting near to wearing out his ECU, they're only good for X amount of reflashes.

I don't have a master fuel scaling variable - can change the MAF calibration - will have a play.
After an ECU reset it is normal, and then as it "learns" something after a few starts it gets frisky again.
If you start it without pausing for the fuel pump, the results are variable, occasionally it splutters into a miserable start, other times it fires very quickly, other times normal.
In addition my turbo is now whining a bit - maybe I'm just paranoid
I'll see if it lets go on the way home tonight ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
This ECU only has about 10 reflashes on it.

John, I thought you had a new turbo.... ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I can't see a problem with fast starting, there will always be an oil film on the bearings to cope with starts anyway. Just look at the dipstick after it's been standing for weeks, it'll still have oil all over it.
Just prescribe yourself a few Prozac and calm down![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

The turbo was a bit quieter when I drove the car quite hard this evening. I've just been in economy mode this week (got 330 miles on a tank as I was fed up with filling it up) and maybe just forgot how noisy these IHI VF bearings are.
I am presently using AE800 ECU code - will try AE801 and 802 as well and see if that makes any difference. Thanks for the reassurance over the oil film.
Yes I seem to spend all day giving out Prozac and amoxicillin
Maybe I should take some myself.
