Having a bad running engine and kangarooing subaru when driving the first miles on a cold engine ???
Clean the AFR sensor with carburettor spray, to blow away all the dirt and oil ( from KN filters !!!! ) The AFR unit gets hot while working so all the substances that are flowing trough tha air are burnt on the surface. I clean mine every 1000 miles and I must say every time its done my scooby drive much easier and without jumping and sneezing trough traffic !!!!

sorry bout that , its the MAF sensor of course... But I have recently also changed the lamba sensor because it was broken : it always gave 0.7 mV in stead of going up and down from 0 to 0.9

UK legacy T watch out , before you re install let it dry or clean with comp. air, do NOT touch the little iron parts on the sensor and dont forget to plug the connector back or your engine light will go on as soon as you start

take the top off the airbox (where the air filter is).
start the car.
hold it steady about 3000 revs,
and spray into the airbox opening (two or three sprays should do it).
it will suck it in and magically clean the MAF sensor

i wouldn't use a carbureator cleaner on that they are rather corrosive...i'd rec you use an Electronic Cleaner as it leaves no residue and is much less harmful to the sensor.
