Hi Guys,
I currently own an STI 5 type r which i have owned since new now on 50000 miles with no probs appart from 4 maf sensors. I think i have been of the lucky ones with no real dramas on the engine front minly due to me keeping it std. BUT NOT ANY LONGER. I have been patient over the last 3 years! I have seen scoobs steadily become faster and faster, i have saved my pennies and now want an all out major rebuild with loads of power. I want to ask for your advice on tuners. parts etc. Who is the best engine builder??? What are the best parts to use???
I have been told the Lateral Performance carry out some crazy jobs! Has anyone on the board used them for a rebuild???
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Regards

Cheers guys, money is not so much of an issue as long as i have an engine that is RELIABLE and v powerfull! Is that too much to as from a boxer engine???? I know that if i go for big power i will get problems but to what extent. Lateral Performances cars sound good but how many engines have they built to big spec and have stood for a long time without any dramas. I might sound a bit arrogant but its questions like this that need to be asked. My best friend back in Australia had his scoob done by one of the best tuners out there called Toni Rigoli Racing. He currently has 420bhp at the wheels. The car has now covered over 30000 miles with that engine and its still going strong. Thats the kind of reliability that i want. Is it too much to ask though??

I don't think there are many (if any) Scoobs in the UK that have had that mileage from that level of BHP at the flywheel, never mind at the wheels !!!
If money is not the issue, just import a complete tried and tested unit from Auz or the USA, most of the big bhp parts fitted to UK Scoobs are imported anyway - as far as I'm aware.

Best you speak to Mark I think ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
We are a little behind in terms of loads of huge power engines over here...
Over the next six months I expect to see quite a few 500 plus bhp scoobies emerge out of the woodwork.
There are some very powerfull ones around at the moment, people dont brag about them though, so thus would not be very forthcoming with details..
I'm sure he can help you![Stick Out Tongue](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif)

Andy, i know for a fact that there is a scoob with just over 420 bhp @ the fly wheel going around London. Only thing is that he doesnt post anywhere for people to find out.

The rigolli cars are not always a good example, some of the more highly tuned cars are running on race fuel for drag racing and the dyno runs.
That said they have done many cars with well over 300hp at the wheels that are daily drivers
Lateral Performance are IMHO the only company currently able to supply all of what you need in one place. Their prices are very competitive too, and the advice top notch.
Money may not be an issue, but you still want good value. Mark can give you plenty of options in terms of power gain vs money spent etc.
Projects such as these look like taking about 3-6 months now, as those that have gone before have done much of the hard work involved in finding the right suppliers for various parts and services. The actual task of bolting it all together is a rather minor one. All the fannying about is with things like uprated fuelling, custom ECU looms, custom exhaust parts for XYZ turbo, finding someone that can do a left handed widget flush to knave plate, gearbox rebuild, getting the car to and from all the various service providers if it doesn't run.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there are no big bhp cars out there. Just that I doubt if there are any as per your claim re the cars in Auz ie 420 bhp at the wheels with 30,000 miles running.
That's over 500bhp flywheel, any cars with this power in the uk are probably 'special occassion' machines !!!

there are some here, and most are 2.4 or 2.5l and are running race fuel and NOS..!!!

You won't find many, if any, high powered Impreza's, having done circa 30,000 miles in the UK. Mainly, because it's all very new to the UK.
Anybody is free to call, or email me for more specific information. I just don't feel the need to post my engine results on the bbs. Although there's so much cr*p, and mis-information posted, that maybe I should.
Mark.

finally, someone else think mark is hiding in the closet!
I always did suspect.
Have to agree with andy. the engines would never have had that kind of milage.
In terms of reliability, there will be a trade off against power.
I would be inclined to do what I am doing. Build it for massive power but turn it down for normal use. That way if you crank it up for a laugh it will survive.
btw. rigoli cars were still bloody quick when they were running 2.0 litre. but remember their power at flywheel is not often quoted, only at the wheels, and their drag cars are converted to rear wheel drive so transmission losses mean 700bhp speculations are not necessarily true. They also run nitrous to get a lot fo power, which i consider to be "cheating" but that is another matter.

Andy,
Ok, just for you
Like David says, this is a little bit of the engine dyno graph from my old engine. I'm probably going to regret doing this, but......

Mark, now i understand why you've been so secretive in reccomending me the right parts on my future mods, you do feel the heat of competition nearby and you just can't take it, money aside !LOL!
Regards,
George
P.S My turbo may be small, but two of them in parallel?????
