Just bought one off scoobynet and am about to get it fitted to my MY00. Been reading a few threads in Drivetrain with some people saying VTA dumpvalves in general cause problems. Has anyone really seen any bad problems using this dump valve as Id rather know now than after Ive had it fitted. Or is it the usual case of scaremongering e.g. my mates mates dad had one and it blew his engine up etc.

Pete Croney & Trouser your input would be appreciated as no doubt youve both sold a fair few of these.

Cheers,

Simon.

never had no probs with mine - unless you count the lovely flames it helps me spit Make sure it has the blue spring though (although available from Forge FOC) - the red one is known to have idle issues.

I seem to remember a post from Pete a while ago where he said VTA's were fine and at least they didn't recirculate oily air back towards the MAF........

Thumbs up

Can recommend the HKS SSEQ BOV, although a little on the pricey side, one hell of a sound from it and no idling problems.

Simon

We have them on all of our own Scoobies, here. No problems at all, the whoosh is more muted than some of the daft Jap ones and you do indeed get those lovely flames with a hot exhaust.

From what i can tell most Forge VTA's come with the Red spring as standard. The only way to tell for sure is to losen the 6 allen key screws and take a look. If you do take this route, be careful that you hold it tight as you remove the last screw, or it will go off like a party popper

Nah mate. It's really easy.
Undo the six screws, holdind it firmly. When the last screw has come out, seperate the two halfs carefully. Theres only two or three parts inside. Swap the spring and re-assemble in the correct order. Piece of pi55.

Question

You buggers! I was set on going for a Forge recirc due to all the problems people suggested, which I still believe are genuine... I like the idea of flames an pops, but don't want it too loud. I had one on my old 96 and it was a bit too much. I remeber a bus having a competition with me, wih his air brake If the recirc is half way inbetween, I will go for that.

Confused now...

I've got a Forge VTA on my MY01 - bought from Pete. It has done 20K+ with no problems whatsoever. Good advice to check about the colour of the spring though.

Forge are a little less noisy than some that you can buy - but that suits me fine.

I have it with - forge said this was the luxury model!!! lol!! But said it makes no difference with or without. I kept it on as I suppose it stops oily air going over the engine and IC!

Thumbs down

I tried one out on my MY01 WRX yesterday at Oulton Park and removed it after a couple of laps. I had problems reaching full boost which is usually 1.1bar. I was only reaching 0.9 and and it then fell off very quickly where as the standard valve would keep full boost right upto the redline. The Forge was dropping boost from 4.5K very quickly. I never noticed this when driving on the road as it is rare for me to get chance to get up to full boost and hold it there.
