Unhappy

I'm about to change the clutch on my 96 Type RA and have been told to fit a lightened flywheel. Is it best to buy one off the shelf or can i get the current one Lightened at an engineering firm??

If so does anyone know where to buy a new one from or where to get it machined lighter ????

Minty.

Thumbs up

got mine from rally colin on here for £80 done.

i was going to get the one on my car lightened but when it came off it had lots of heat fractures.

apparently this is a common fault!

mine was lightened to around 8kg and has made a noticable difference.

I am glad it made a difference we can go lighter but I don't know how much without causing a problem with the idling.

Sorry if I sound a bit dull but what improvement does a lightened flywheel make?

Is it safe to take the standard flywheel lower than 8kg? The shop doing mine stopped at 8, saying anything more wasn't worth the risk...I've heard horror stories of these things spitting the dummy at high revs.....

At 8kg I noticed a quicker pick up when booting throttle.

you are MUCH better off buying a premade chromoly unit, i presonally reccomend the Jun lightweight Flywheel for the WRX, i run a Fidanza 9.6lb flywheel on my NA RS but i'd never attach it too a low compression factory turbo car.
