What causes pops?

Bit of a dumb question I'm afraid, but...
Got my uppipe & downpipe fitted at SS a couple of weeks ago. On a couple of occasions since, when changing up from 2nd to 3rd I've heard a pop from the back (and I mean from the car
). Just wondered what causes this...

Unburnt fuel getting to the exhast - it explodes from the heat.
Lots of things can cause it! Most cars do it anyway to some extent, but it's muffled by resonators, silencers & cats. The more of them that have gone, the more of the pops get through!
