The P1 downpipe is relating to that specific model of subaru which put out 276bhp as standard. This has nothing to do with the PPP engine upgrade. I do not know if that downpipe has a sports catalyst as standard, but suspect it would have.

What you will have fitted for the PPP, is a new backbox and centre pipe/ a new ecu/ and a Y branch and uprated intercooler pipe fitted to your intercooler underneath (identified by blue silicon pipe).

The Full GGR exhaust system is good for at least 350bhp ( i only say this because I have seen a car fitted with one as part of an upgrade package in Greece.)

The power engineering exhaust also contains a catalyst but in the centre section. I havent seen this exhaust in reality at all.

Most people seem to go the full decat route and fit a centre cat for the MOT. The centre Cat that was replaced on your car when the PPP was fitted is up to the task (from reports on this site)and is easily removed/refitted as necessary. Hopefully the garage that fitted your PPP will have given you the original ECU and centre Cat pipe back after fitting, if it is not obtainable then you would need to borrow one in order to get an MOT certificate if you also go the decat route.

Nicebloke....

When I had my 99 RB5 (WR) decatted, I was all set to have the downpipe and centre cats removed however, once the downpipe was off, it became apparent that there was NO centre cat.... now, the mechanic had never seen a '99 car, PPP'd or not that hadn't got a centre cat - although other people I've spoken to say its part of the PPP process.....

If yours is missing the centre cat, the beauty of it is...... its much cheaper!!! Grab yourself an open downpipe, get a friendly scooby expert to fit it, and take it back at mot time - for a few extra quid they'll fit a catted mid section for the MOT then whip it off again after the emissions test........

I had the same fears and crises of faith when I was thinking of doing it - however, if you keep your original parts its easily reversible.........and it has GOT to be the biggest bang for your buck on a UK car - especially when you've PPP'd it already......

Once you've had it done - post up your initial impressions - I can't wait to "see" your reaction to the sound / power

Unhappy

one minor problem, i dont have original centre scoob section, i had to take my car personally to prodrive to get it pppd now i already had a scoobysport middle and rear section on and had to take the original exaust along in me boot aswell, so when it was all done i only had room in the car for the scooby exhaust and left the other bit with em ???!!!!

I haven't ever owned a middle section with cat, which was my concern - however, the garage i use will stick on their own centre cat for the mot then whip it off again.......

Shouldn't be a problem if you find a friendly garage.....

Cool

Nicebloke,

Nah - I sincerely doubt it.

The most restrictive, evil unfriendly spoilsport piece of the exhaust is the downpipe.......

My RB5 has had the PPP all its life, with associated centre section and backbox. This is how your car will be at the moment.......

The downpipe (with no cat) will give UP to 10% on top of that (in reality it will almost certainly be less than that....... but you will feel the difference immensely, as the turbo spins up quicker and achieves a slightly higher held boost level.....

IMHO the PPP exhaust is adequate once you change the downpipe. The de-cat gives a much lower, throatier note, but the PPP backbox is reasonably quiet - best of both worlds!

Again, its only my opinion, but I can't see an awful lot of advantage to the pricier pipes - if your car is tuned to the absolute max, you may wring out an extra Shetland-Ponies worth of power, but would you notice? If I ever get to the point of having power graphs hanging over my bed, I would hope a friend would put me out of my misery.

As I said - the mechanic who fitted mine had a twin dump, chromed pipe on the shelf, a mild steel open necked pipe next to it and my credit card in his hand. I asked him why the twin dump pipe was more expensive and he said, "In all honesty it just LOOKS nicer. We haven't found any advantages to the exhaust flow." Which I though was very honest.

So....you can pay from £110 to £600....... but I doubt if either of us could tell the difference once we closed the bonnet.....

all you need to do is telephone your subaru dealer and they are MEANT to SORT it for you, (they went fubar with me and i ended up taking my car to prodrive myself!)
depending what year your car is depends on whether your dealer will fit ppp themselves or take it to prodrive.
also there are other garages that specialise in subarus that arnt main dealers who will fit ppp.
cost,,,,,...now there is the sting.....i paid £1735 (that also included the prodrive quickshift)but i got it cheaper cos i created grief over having to take the car to warwick myslef.
Now i love the torqy drive BUT, for £1700 you could get alot more bhp to your buck, ppp is good if you want to retain warrenty and like i said im happy, but if i had the 1700notes again id go another route, ecutek, cold air aps, full decat exhaust system
