Since running my new hybrid I have a really bad misfire if I run boost over 1.1 bar. At this time I think it is due to the coil packs struggling and breaking down at the higher combustion pressure. I am already down to 0.6 plug gap so don't really want to go any tighter.
I know there are Bosch coils that work well as replacements but I believe they are not available in this country.
I would like to run the car at Well Lane on Sunday but no way I'll get coils from Auz in time now
Any ideas what I could use as a short term uprated replacement ?
I don't mind if they are big n ugly, just as long as they work !

for everyones benefit,
a guy over on the gtr register discusses the merits of spark plusg etc.
He is seriously well ediucated and a bright guy who calls himself mycroft.
think the thread is here on blowdog's forum.
If you search through the tuning: general forum you will also see he is about the best person to speak to with regard to oil if you have any questions.

I wish they had as you kindly sent me the leads and I'm £185 down now for the coils but to be honest there was no change. When I put the gaps back to 0.7mm the misfire returned. Bob R recons it could be the coil 'on' time is too short, this is set by the ECU and is not adjustable AFAIK.

Andy, you should definitely post a question on the gtr register asking Mycroft to give his thoughts.
He is easily the most knowledgable and practised person I know of in this area of engines, who will readily help if he can.
His spark plug thread might be of some use to you too.

Reading too much GTR will make your head explode !
I only gapped my plugs so tight because I get a misfire if I open them any further. If I open them to 0.7 then it runs so much better off boost, it would probably also run better on boost if it would stop misfiring long enough
I bought this set from a guy on S/net who previously bought them for his scoob and then never fitted them.
Looking at the original fitment cars, they are nothing special. I can't believe there is not an equivalent available in the UK ??

I posted before reading your reply. I read his plug thread and I'm convinced I need a bigger gap. I hope to try a different ECU shortly. I suspect my ECU's ignition amplifiers are a bit underpowered ??

Cheers Andy
At the moment i'm running NGK 6's with my miniscule boost lol (17.5 held), and i get no hiccups at all.
What i'm planning on doing is removing the 6's measure the gap and set the 7's to the same gap, can you see any problems with doing that???
Cheers
Iain
PS, went for a spin in a renault 21 turbo running 2.2 bar of boost, wall of torque is an understatement lol
