Link ECU - What a difference!
#1
Hi,
Just for information after I ran on Well Lane's rollers last year and hit 331bhp and 275 lbsft I thought the car was quick.
The spec was
96 UK Turbo
Blitz SUS Induction
full 2.5" decat with wrapped downpipe
HKS FCD
HKS AFR
HKS EVC3 running 1.5 bar
HKS Iridium plugs
HKS manifold
GGR uppipe
MRT lightened pulleys
Uprated Fuel pump
Standard TD05 Turbo, standard intercooler, standard 380cc injectors and standard internals
Since then I have fitted the following:
Uprated fuel pressure reg
550 injectors
full 3" decat exhaust
Link ECU
HKS FMIC
MRT lightened flywheel
AP clutch
Yesterday I hit 356bhp (could have been more as the car couldn't be kept down on the rollers) and 348lbsft
An amazing improvement, but it doesn't tell the whole story.
Comparing the 2 graphs, the Link has improved the car right across the rev range from 0-7000!
Example: at 4500 rpm power was 180bhp, now is 290bhp. A 110bhp rise at the same rpm!!!!
Also torque at the same 4500 rpm has gone from 205lbsft to 340lbsft. A 135lbsft rise
The car is now an animal and probably one of the most powerful UK spec Scoobs around. Amazing!
Cheers
Rich

what sort of boost are you running,peak/held?
good to see a car with similar torque to power .
edit to add:331bhp with 380's and not even a fpr, must be optimistic rollers ,as long as they are consistent though.

Excellent result Rich That must be a UK record for a standard turbocharger ?
How many bodys were holding it down ?
Did you get any figures before/after adding the weight ?
Andy
Tuk - Should find out how slippy the rollers were in 2 weeks when I run at Star

1.5 bar which dropped to 1.2 on the rollers.
On the road it only drops to 1.4 for some reason.
No fpr on the car before but the AFR adjuster was set to Max richness.
Optimistic rollers? A standard Audi TT 225 got 223bhp yesterday.
Andy,
Could only get 331 until the weight was added. Barry said it just wasn't getting the power down. Tried 2 bods in the back, but the fat exhaust and lowered suspension caused fowling of the exhaust on the propshaft so we sat 1 guy in the open boot and got 356 twice. Harvey said that he expected 370-380 bhp from mine but the boost dropped off (and you can see from the graph where the power should be) so couldn't get more.
Cheers

Stop wetting my appetite, I've still got 48 days until my Link is fitted.
What size injectors would my MY95 STI WRX RA have as standard? I guess I might have to buy higher flow ones before I have the Lnk mapped!! Any suggestions?
Cheers
Dom.

LOL @ Jonny Gav
I didn't know you were there m8, you should have introduced yourself!
Cheers Mickle and Tone.
You're both on, next time we meet!
Dunno Dom to be honest, standard WRX would have 380s but not sure about the RAs, maybe 440s? Dpends on what power you are after and your other mods. 440s may be ok for reasonable power, 550s for big power, 740s for huge power and 850s for daft power!
I'm on 550s.
Cheers

Hi Dizzy,
I got the pump from Mark Aigin (R19KET) and the ECU from Bob Rawle (BRD).
You'd have to ask Bob on the cost for your car as it differs for different models.
pump was about £130 if I remember right.
Cheers

didnt we decide soem time back that the only reason we were using stupid large injectors was to get the fuelling sorted at the top end, but later discovered that the fuel pump was the problem not the injectors?
I am sure the cossies were getting away with smaller injectors at higher power for years.
would think that 740s are more than enough for any car on here so long as the fuel pump can cope.
based on what I believe is an accepted rule of 5cc per bhp (at 85% isc I think) 740 times four cylinders = 2960cc
divided by 5 gives 592 bhp doesn't it? (done in my head but isnt going to be miles out.

Hard to say really m8,
I've known for a long time that the car had a good strong engine as it seemed to outgun more modded Scoobs in its early days when it was fairly standard.
If you're ever in the area, look me up and I'll take you for a spin.
Cheers
