UP PIPE?????????
#1
I mean 30 minutes plus the time to cool down the engine, jack up the car and take off the plastic under the car of course!
If you jack up the engine you don't have to take off the whole manifold, just unbolt the last part before up pipe with it's heat shield.
It saves you time and exhaust gaskets.
And I am not expert on this just saw what they did to my car last time.

Hi All,
I am getting a new (full) de-cat system and was wondering what does/will a up-pipe do?
Do i need one?
Also is it recommended to put a heat wrap on the downpipe?

Ive put a stainless up pipe on my sti 5 it does make a difference you get about 8 BHP increase it does fill quicker and the turbo spolls up earlyer. I think it a must if you ve got your engine out it quite a big job if you havent

My mechanic on local Subaru service change it in 30 minutes.
Jack-up a little the engine from turbo side(less than 10cm), unbolt partially the previous part of manifold - before up pipe - unbolt finally factory up pipe from both sides and put the new one back.
Don't forget to give some time the engine to cool down and spray some WD40 on the bolts. Of course wrap the up pipe with heat wrapping as this saves you from new rocker cover gasket-seal and give some more power.
Good luck!

According to many specialists up pipe gives more or less 5HP, better throttle response and turbo spool up.
