Replaced the downpipe at the weekend but have run into some problems.
The new downpipe didn't have a fitting point for the existing lambda sensor, the only point was a much larger diameter hole that is very close to the turbo.
Also there are no mounting points for the heatshield, the downpipe is lagged.
I had a lucas universal wideband lambda sensor laying around (one of those "it may be useful in the future things") that mounted perfectly in the hole.
The car runs perfectly, co2 at idle is .6 -.7 which I didn't think was too bad for a catless car. However, on a spirited run (about every time I drive the car) the exhaust temp warning illuminates, I don't have an egt gauge, or now anywhere to mount a probe, anyone have any suggestions?

what year is your car?

by the sounds of it you are confusing the egt sensor with the lambda

by what you say you must have an earlier car?, and a later downpipe

it's a 96 wrx
the old downpipe only had a mounting hole at the bottom of the bend, nearer the centre section, the new one only had a hole at the top pipe

I fitted an HKS Downpipe a few weeks ago to my 96 WRX.The original down pipe had the temp sensor fitted towards the rear of the pipe quite near the centre section. The HKS down pipe had two threaded holes, one up near the turbo and one towards the centre section.I fitted a blanking plug in the hole near the turbo and fitted the temp sensor in the other.I was told the Lamda sensor is in the manifold, dont know if this is correct.Guess it must be cos there aint one anywhere else!!
Now have HKS Hyper system and Hks down pipe what a difference. However now i can hear the turbo spin up im paranoid it dosnt sound right.
Chockymonster did you sort it in the end??

Ish.

waggy, are you saying that you didn't have a lambda sensor?
I assumed (bad I know) that the probe was a lambda sensor, not a temp sensor.

It would make it a hell of a lot easier if it isn't a lambda

IIRC Chocky, on your car you do have a Lambda sensor, it is not in the downpipe, but in the manifolid, ie pore turbo. So the sensor you are trying fit is in fact the temp sensor.

Aha!
so now I have 2 lambda sensors
AH well, it'll go back into the "it may be useful one day" box
Right, where can I get an EGT probe that will work with defi gaugys that will fit in the top hole?
