if the turbo needs rebuilt drop mark aigin (aka R19KET on s/net)of lateral performance a mail.

I recently got a TD05 rebuilt through him for much less than quoted above,I am guessing that sheepsplitter is talking about a VF type turbo.

A service kit for a TD05 is under £100 and it takes 5 minutes to fit.

ps check thoroughly for an air leak before blaming the turbo !!!

Guys

Any advice would be a god send. Under acceleration the other day I started to get a 'whistle' when the turbo spooled up. At approx 3000 rpm it became more apparent and seemed to rise in tone as the boost increased. I have had a very brief check of the hoses but have discovered nothing. I am still pulling 0.9 - 1.0 bar but am concerned.

If it is the turban on it's way out (TD05), what is the best replacement? and how much are we looking at?.

Would it be worth buying a second hand blower at all.

Any comments would be greatly welcomed.

Get it checked out.
If it is the turbo you are looking at about £800 to get it reconditioned, or £1200 to replace it.
I had mine reconditoned at 60K miles, because it started to whistle on down spin(although it had been doing this for 8 months, I thought enough is enough, I don't want it going pop on me). When I got it back the car pulled better and performed better than it ever had.

I would suggest sending it to lateral performance to get it fixed and make it into a hybrid

Thanks guys

What would be the damage to get my turbo converted into some kind of hybrid jobbie. All I am after is a strong unit with perhaps a little more GO!!. I currently have a HKS mega flow air filter and a decat exhaust system with scooby sport downpipe. I am running approx 1 bar of boost but that is it. I really am groping around in the dark with this and am fearfull of 'total ripoff' syndrome.

I just want to get the job done correctly first time but I just do not know who to trust to give me the full sp!!

I will contact the chap mentioned above as his name crops up quiet often. Just hope he knows his onions.

Zippo,

Like Andy F says, first eliminate any air leaks causing the problem.

The TD05 is capable of producing the power you want, so it would be worth getting it stripped, and serviced.

Depending on how involved you want to get, you could get it converted to front entry, there's just a fair amount of work to get it back on the car.

Mark.

Mark

Thanks for the advice. Is this something you could have a stab at? and if so what would you recommend. What are the benifits of front entry as opposed to the normal setup? How long would it take to get the car back on the road and finally, what sort of money are we talking?

So many questions and so little time.

Thanks

Phil

Does anyone know where I could get this sorted in the Stevenage/St Albans/Luton area as my undies are now in a complete state of disrepair (aswell as my turbo).

Again, try Mark (R19KET - Lateral Performance), he should be able to help you somehow.

Sounds exactly like mine was doing. Pulled out the turbo then discovered it was a blown gasket between the pipework and the intercooler.

Right

Turbo has been confirmed as knackered so I do need a new/servivced or upgraded one. I dont have a number/e-mail address for Mark at Lateral Performance so if anyone could supply me with his details that would be great.
