Hybrid turbo's, what do the numbers mean MD???

I have an MD304.
There is an MD309 and an MD195 in the for sale section.
Could someone please explain to me what the numbers are in reference to. Are they an indication of potential power or just the serial number that Turbo Dynamics give them?
Are the MD hybrids just the IHI's?
What other MD's are there? MD380 MD400??
Didn't want to bother Mark on the phone with such a simple question. (For those who know )

I think they have different spool up charecteristics....
I am still informed that the 195 produces the most peak power of a VF22... hybrid but tends to spool up slower as a result...
So 309 does not mean that it has more power than the 195 for instance
I would be intrigued if someone could post what the expected torque and power outputs of these turbo's is?

Not sure that's a good idea ? Depends too much on other things IMHO.
A list of tested results such as dyno/rolling road runs with full engine specs may allow you to compare and 'copy' someones complete set up.
Otherwise you will get a completely different result from the next guy.
As an example, someone recently emailed me who had been sold a VF22 turbo which he was told would hold 25 psi to 7000 rpm
In reality it struggled to make 20 psi at that rpm. Thing is, if you build enough backpressure on the exhaust then it probably would make 25 psi but with really low power output.
It's a real can of worms speccing turbo's when you don't know the engine details.

It's quite scary the claims made for some turbo's !
There was a guy recently on this board that fitted an APS AP? 50 which was sold as a 500 bhp turbo, it never even made 400 on his fully prepped 2.2. Now this was not necessarily the turbo at fault but when someone advertises a 400 bhp turbo it may not make 400 bhp due to the full set up.
If someone was selling me a turbo and claiming xxx bhp I would want to see -
1- A compressor map which I could assess for suitability (or ask advice of a 3rd party if you can't do this yourself)
2 - A rolling road/dyno power print out of the turbo fitted to an identical spec engine. This would be to verify the bhp claim and allow assessment of any lost power/torque at lower rpm.

'If' the 18G compressor wheel was in between the big 16G and the 20G in in terms of flow and PR capability, I think it would be ideal for the job. However having seen a picture of one, it is a completely different design. It only has one height of blade (9off IIRC) instead of the two stage 6 high/6 low design of the 16 or 20g.
The 18G doesn't seem to be very popular with the USA DSM boys who are successfully running many variations of TD05/06/07 with small 16G, big 16G and 20G compressors.

The big 16G is better all round than the 18G IHMO, based on the compressor maps alone. Experiences of others seem to ad weight to that argument.

I had previously been led to believe that the 18G wheel was the same as a 20g wheel but with a 55 rather than 60 trim.

It was possibly I who mislead you if indeed I used the word "same" ? I believe the 18G does sit midway between the big 16G and 20G in terms of its 55 trim and they all share the same compressor OD. The 18G flow rating is closer to 16G than 20G though.

What I think you're really trying to say is that you want to see a compressor map for an 18G I did see one but can't remember where....doh I'll have another look around.

Yes no problem. Also as much info on the turbo, engine, induction and Exhaust as possible to allow a reasonable estimate of flow capability. Email me if preferred.
