Ragnarock,

I think that it would be ok as the DP is the most restrictive part of the exhaust, but I would run Octane booster anyway and get a knocklink installed to make sure it's not detting.

The later type R's don't have a cat in the centre pipe - just a resonator to dampen the noise a bit.

Can i put the Nur Spec R system (i.e. from downpipe back) system on my STiV type R without messing the engine up? I have read that it is safe to change the bacbox only - but wondered if backbox + centre is OK?

The Nur Spec R system is only the centre and backbox. This can be done easy.

You can change the downpipe to one without a cat but its a pain in the **** to change and when MOT comes, you will have to change it over.

Fat boy, I have a 99 STi V Type R ltd - so i am not entirely sure on whether it has a centre cat or not! I run on optimax at the mo with octane booster, no knocklink though (how much to get one?)

Where abouts do I get one of them from then (knock link)? Also, am i best to go for the Nur Spec and get another centre section, or the Nur spec R (is there a difference in sound, performance etc?)

Cheers

BRD (they have a banner ad on here) are the european distributors but lots of people sell them - try someone like demon tweeks.

With regard to the pipe, can't help you as I don't have Nur or Nur R I'm sure someone else on here can help. Try and get a 3" pipe diameter though(not Backbox) if you can, although that might be difficult to mate up with the standard DP, as the bigger the diameter pipe- the less backpressure (which is good for turbos)- the better. Of course you won't get the full benefit until you change the DP as well, but it's a slippery slope and I can sense you beginning to slide down it

I already have slid down it with my MY98 Uk turbo with decats, induction etc, want to do the same with the typeR, but have noticed I need to be careful - and need a remap before I do much more than the backbox!
