STI5/6 intercooler can fit ask jonnygav... you can pick them up for £150+ then you just need a 51mm samco bend and a straight 51mm hose... and a dump valve fitting fit..

Question

Dan,

if i remember correctly, you drive a 95WRX?? I drive a 93WRX and i notice a disgracefull loss of power when driving hard for longer than 30secs. Have you replaced your original intercooler with an sti one. Any differences? are you happy?
thanks m8

Not yet but im off to soon... i dont really drive it hard for long periods of time, but our slanted intercooler is pretty crap...

Jonnygav has replaced his with and STI6 intercooler and he gained a slight increase in boost pressure, plus these intercooler standard can handle at the very least 280bhp so thats the main reason i want one..

The MRT one is a total rip off if you ask me... its nearly the same price as an HKS FMIC which is neary twice its size...

Cool

I would save your money and get a front mount, i ran 312bhp with 288lb on the standard 95wrx intercooler at 1.2bar for a long time,i then got a pace front mount which is excelent for very little turbo lag.

Question

I was reading that TD04 turbo is too small for a FMIC and that youde get better results from a good TMIC. What do you think?

mad matt

how do you think the pace FMIC and the td05 go together? pros and cons. does the pace require hacking the bumper?

Pace requires no bumper mods.

Big....

What are you aiming for power wise? If you after about 300bhp-320 bhp you could get away with the standard intercooler. I know a few cars that run 300 bhp on these (including the old group A rally cars at 2 bar boost) and some that even got up to 330bhp. I wouldn't go that far but 300bhp is sensible. Just make sure that the downpipe is lagged and the turbo heatshield is on and you have a set of Samco turbo hoses and possible intercooler water spray. You've got to ask yourself whether it's worth £1100 to you.

If your after 320bhp then i'd say it's obviously a must.

Tony.

Cool

I cant tell you how good the pace kit is,easy to fit and looks the nuts,i run and air charge temp sensor and the car runs 20 to 25 degrees cooler on full boost now{1.5 bar}compared to the standard cooler using a td05,the best bit was no noticeable lag.
