TD05 hybrid?

I've no idea what goes into creating a hybrid turbo, is it simply mating the compressor and turbine housings with the correct length shaft? My friend has a TD05(?) in a semi abandoned mitsu 4G63T, the turbine flanges have nothing in common with the subies. Is there any possibility in replacing a TD04L compressor with a TD05 one.

The compressor from a TD05 has been shoehorned into a TD04 compressor housing in the US at least, but with limited success but high claims I gather. The turbine wheel & housing, plus the compressor housing are all too small to support real power.
If using a TD05 from a 4G63 note that some of them are reverse spin turbos so would be incompatible, plus you will struggle to get the IHI design Subaru 3 bolt turbine housing to allow you to fit the turbo to a Subaru. Also note if the turbo is off a failed engine then the turbo bearing could be damaged.
A TD05 from an older Subaru converted to front entry may be a better starting point.
Most turbos have the exhaust wheel as part of the main shaft, so hybriders tend to change the compressor wheel and housing (or machine the original to suit). There tend to be few options for beefing up the exhaust side other than cutting back the turbine blades which to some degree behaves like a bigger wheel (slower spool, potentially better top end).
