Question

I'm trying to learn a bit more about the ECU in my MY99 Turbo and finally got round to getting the carpet and kickplate up and having a look. These are the details:

E3 AE800 A18-000

I'm asking because when I purchased the car I took it down Power Engineering for a powertest on the RR. Completly standard ( as I thought/think ) it ran 252bhp.

I've heard that PE's RR can be generous but that's alot more than I expected from a standard car.

I've also heard that E3's are good ECU's but can they really produce that much on their own or has it been remapped??????

I want to be as sure as I can as I was considering getting it EcuTek 3'd to go with the scoobysport decatted system I've now had fitted.

I expect hooking up Delta dash may tell you. Have you got a boost gauge fitted? If so that would help as you could find out what boost the car is running.

252bhp does sound a lot!

Hav'nt got a boost gauge but the car has been on select monitor at local dealership quite recently and they say all readings are normal ( I was complaining about vibration on idle ).

Tricky one because I've done 30k miles in it now and is reliable ( never left me by the side of the road ) and goes well, but worried about paying £750-£800 on remap and finding out I had the same bhp I started with.....

245 BHP at least has been seen out of a bog standard MY99 on a cold day at PE previously. Optimistic certainly. Take it to Powerstation and you'll get another figure - then take the average

You can tell if it is standard by checking the boost. Held boost of 13.7 PSI is normal. Most maps would run at least 2 PSI more than this.

Cheers John,

I was waiting for some input from yourself

Worrying if my dealership saw abnormal boost figures and told all was OK. I'll get it to PowerStation and see what goes on. I figure I should be running around 270bhp with scoobysport exhaust system ( Prodrive backbox )

John,

Somebody told me that that if my ECU had a brown sticker with "E3" on it it's a good model. I've got "E3" on a silver sticker.

Any significance or am I being a muppet???

Well we ran a decat MY00 at Star the other day and it did a magical 221 BHP. Rolling roads are unreliable for absolute figures.

Mine got 239bhp/219lbs on Well Lane, MY00 with an AE800 (from T-UK) Magnex Backbox & Decat Res Centre

I was suprised, and the rollers had been slipping earlier on the power monsters before me
