ECU remap/replacement - who to use?

Thinking of using Power Engineering as they do a remap of the original ecu for £800ish for about 30bhp.
Who else is there to use as an alternative?
Have an MY98 so can't replace the ecu as far as I am aware, only remap it.
Currently only done full scoobysport exhaust and forge dumpvalve and want to head for the 300bhp mark so what else is there apart from the expensive option of replacing the turbo which is totally out of the question? Once remap has been done it should take it to about 280bhp so I have been told. Need a further 20bhp from somewhere???
I know nothing about mechanics/engines so please nothing too technical on the explanation front
Thanks for any advice

The piggy back ecu contains the map, it intercepts the original ECU's signals and send its own out instead! I was gonna get the PE chip for my UK MY98, but I sold it and got a MY99 STiV Type R.

Unichip (another sort of piggyback), presumably, although you need to pick through a considerable number of iffy mappers.
Link for a complete but probably overkill solution.
Various HKS gadgets that allow the fuel & boost curve to be edited. Although I think this means 'home mapping' - potentially a disasterous thing! I think these HKS ones are quite clever, but not sure if they're that clever

The piggyback board used by PE for their Phase 1 conversion doesn't intercept anything. The piggyback board provides external memory for the microcontroller on the ECU, just like the ROM socket on the older (pre-97) JECS ECUs, it's just a bit more complicated on the 97/98 ECU due to things like the built in immobilser sitting on the external memory bus.
The 2 EPROMs on the PE board contain both the Code and Maps although it's only the maps that are changed.

I think the term Piggyback is somewhat mis/over used.
The mechanism by which the ECUs behaviour is changed by an External ROM board is completely different to that used by interceptor devices such as the Unichip, XEDE etc.

Nice one Alcazar! I have been wanting to do this for ages but its a fair bit of cash. Good luck with it, hope your not as bad as me for waiting for things, I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas morning when getting new toys, the wait is unbearable!

There is also a bunch of guys on here (forget the names) who offer the kit and some standard maps for your age car.
I don't really know the details but have a look at www.scoobyecu.co.uk. I think they offer something similar to the PE Phase 1.
Ta,
Matt

I would contact Bob Rawle and discuss the options available to you and what sort of thing you are after, then make an informed choice! He will be able to help you out and you won't regret spending any money with him!
