Question

Have got an my99 with tek3 remap (1.15 bar held) and decat downpipe. How can I add a few horses without any visual or aural cues. Going to replace the car next year, so 'the government' will almost certainly not approve anymore costly improvements, hence the need for stealth!. Would a [samco] hose set do anything to up the performance with a tek3 re-remap?

Your ideas gratefully will be gratefully received!

The hose-kit might.
An uprated TMIC would.
As would a bigger turbo

Inderdaad, Wally my man.
Mark did my Ecutek custom remap at the end of last year. Very pleased with the job! Perhaps I should contact him for a few tweaks, but just wanted to know what other people had found effective.

Bigger turbos mean more lag don't they = less drivability but more top end performance? I remember my old MY95 was indeed quite laggy.

Think the airfilter is a K&N panel. Does changing it really make such a big diffference?

All that filter story means not much... Wathever filter you use, original, panel, trumpet, cone, the result is the same...
You can place another exhaust if you have still the original, that will release a few bhp, especially with a tek3...
With Samco hoses you eliminate the risk of blown hoses, quite commen when the boost is raised.
Also, invest your money in a driver course istead of "more bhp - no brains" stuff...

Filter can make a little difference - the reason I mention it is you where after stealth Mods, and a aftermarket panel filter is virtually undetectable.
Changing the zorst will not exactly be stealthy

The driver course is a good idea and better brake pads should help (if yours are standard).
Something like Ferodo DS2500 or Pagid Rs4.2 will make a big difference even on standard disks.

seeing as you have the option to map it...

get a closed deck ej20 block linered up to 2.2L (possibly stroke to 2.3L) and fit uprated internals... get the heads sorted... fit a hybrid turbo that appears standard on the outside... get the ECU remapped for this lot (make sure you have a good fuel pump and possibly an uprated fuel reg)... that should give you a stealthy improvement in power. It will even say ej20 on the top of the block, just as normal. Water injection, or an uprated top mount would also be good.

Oh, and swap your stealthy engine and turbo etc out when you replace the car.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the tips. Appreciate it.

Wally - have had some driver training (anti-skid course) where I could hoon around a little too. Helped to appreciate the capabilities and limitations of the car a little - especially in the wet.

Brakes, tyres and disks were in fact the first upgrade. Have cross drilled and grooved disks with Ferrodo pads at the mom. These upgrades were closely followed by winter tyres and now metal braided hoses. Then came the Ecutek remap.

Moray - your main suggestions would probably be too expensive for what I imagine will be under a year's use and second-hand sale would involve a significent loss too I would imagine? Like the sound of the water injection and upgraded intercooler though. I'll check what the local suppliers say about these.

Cheers again

Suresh
