Wanted Induction Kit MY 99 Impreza

why?
sorry to sound picky but not many people bother on your car as you have a foil MAF which can fail VERY easily with induction modifications..
even on other MY's they offer only a neglegable gain. if you really want to modify the induction get an ITG (?) panel filter.

Agree with Dizzy, in part at least.
Negligible benefits to be had from an induction kit; big swings and roundabouts deal.
However, wouldn't recommend the ITG panel filter; too many reports of knackered MAF sensors on the 99/00 cars. K&N or Green if it was my money.

Agree, don't stick an induction kit on MY99/00.
MAF's don't like them and blew 2 in 4 weeks running Blitz SUS and LM filters
Put the original air box back in with a K&N and no probs so far
Also feels like the car has more torque as well!

Well there always one who will disagree.... and this time I think it's going to be me!!
On my old MY99 car I ran a Unifilter RamPod induction kit for over 20,000 miles with no issues.
It was the APS one I fitted later that blew up my MAF sensor!!
On my current MY00 car, I've been running a K&N 57i again with no issues.
I think if you do a search on this board, you'll find that the K&N come highly recommended from MY99/00 owners and I don't know of anyone running one who has had MAF issues!
Ones known to cause problems on the MY99/00 cars are:
Pipercross (Combination of poor filtration and filter oil)
Blitz (down to poor filtration, from my knowledge)
HKS (if fitted incorrectly, vibrations or dirty filters have accountted for most of the failures I know of)
APS (Probably down to the volume of air my turbo was demanding and vibrations, although I haven't heard of any other MAF failures running this filter)

Hi Andy,
I've had the APS cold air induction kit for 3 years but no MAF failures. John Banks the same. I believe they too, like the K&N 57 kit, don't cause MAF failures. They have a very stable fit on the car and don't cause vibration. The problems with the APS CAI is they cause the engine to run lean cos the MAF under reads the airflow. The ECU thus gives less fuel. A remap is necessary to run this induction kit.
Cheers,
George.

Thank you very much for all your input everybody. I am running a Ecutek Tek 2 and a full decat at the moment I wonder would that be suffice for the APS kit? If not I think Ill leave the car as it is?

The Tek 2 won't suit the APS induction kit. You need a Tek 3 cos the MAF scaling map needs recalibrating.
The K&N 57 kit is the go for you.
Cheers,
George.

Don't fit the APS induction kit without getting a remap to suit. Several people have found it causes the A/F to go dangerously lean. I believe there is now even a warning about this on the APS site.
For the record I have been using the K&N 57i on my MY00 for over 2 years with no problems whatsoever. I'm not aware of any reports on here of MAF failure with this kit. It is very securely bolted in place and the filtration levels are better than most.
