Scooby Gear ratios

Which type of scooby (WRX, Type R , uk turbo, RA and STI) has the shortest gear ratios? I realise this may well vary depending on year etc but as a generalisation.

Classic Type R/RA's should have the shortest overall gearing, circa 18.5mph/1000rpm in top.
UK spec car is positively lazy in comparison at 24.9/1000. In fact, fourth in a UK car is fractionally longer than 5th in an RA...

MY MY00 Type RA is 19.7mph/1000rpm in 5th.
103mph @ 7,600rpm in 4th gear (according to my RR dyno graph)
The earlier RA were really short and could just about reach 125 before hitting the redline in 5th.

Stu,
The RA/Type R are Jap Imports only, they have their pitfalls over a uk car (the biggest being insurance and the need for a higher octane fuel, ie sul and octane booster).
The good side is that they are quicker though the gears, they unfortunately dont come with ABS though, so can be a handful in the wet if you like ABS.
The older type RA's are a pretty stripped out car, some wont have a/c or electric windows (these were factory options) and are pretty loud inside, there are some special editions though (like the one Chrisp has and there is an STi version of the type RA (of which there are a few limited editions) and the type R was mainly an STi with a very limited edition for the standard wrx.
Please note that the type RA are usually 4 doors (there is also a limited edition 2 door but ive never seen one) where as the type R is a 2 door car.
One last point is that these cars for 99% of the insurance co's will require a tracking system and you should be over the age of 25 (30 in most cases) before they will insure you on one.

Thats for an STi5 Type RA ratios but my MY00 RA ratios seem to be very similar, had to adapt the top speeds though as my car redliens at 7,500 where as teh STI its 8,000rpm so mine has a slightly lower top speed in each gear but the mph/rpm is the same.
I think those figures were got from reading speeds off the clocks (not by me) so maybe slightly out but not by much. As I posted earlier my RR showed 103mph @ 7,600rpm (which is close to the figure there) and I know my car is geared at 19.7mph/1000rpm in 5th.
So yes then seem pretty close to my car but there is always clock inaccuracies.

I own a version 2 STI RA, my car redlines at 8000rpm and the final drive is about 17mph per 1000rpm. 100mph is just over 6000 rpm which is very hard work!!!
I do have 17" wheels with 215/40 tyres so this might upset the speedo reading a bit!
I was under the impression that the type R/RA gearbox was slightly stronger than a standard wrx box...could be wrong though!!
Also my car will not hit 60 in 2nd gear!

So for these cars that dont hit 60 in second the 0-60 time includes a change to third! and yet they still manage it in what mid 5's to mid 4's? That must make the pull through the gears amazing! A mate of mine has a highly modified STI V5 and that will hit 60 in second and still feels so strong! I cant wait to try a type R!!

The STi 5 R/RA will just hit 60 in second because of the 8000 redline.
7.75mph/1000 x 8(000) = 62mph
The rev limiter on mine (according to a fellow scoobynetter with the same car) is 8250 so yes I could hit 60 in second but would need to do 7750rpm (250rpm into the red zone)

Just to make sure nobody gets put off getting a Type R/A from the last point in Tony Burn's post, I am 23 years old and I found my STI5 TypeR pretty easy to insure (settled for £1800 FC)....although as he said, it does require a tracker (and a cat1 alarm)
