Earlier this evening on my way home, i pulled out to overtake a lorry on the motorway in 3rd, changed into 4th and at about 4-5k the car suddenly lost power for less than a second (quite violent) but continued to run. I tried it again, this time looking at the boost gauge and it was indicating 16-17psi. Did it again in 4th and 5th with wot and it would read up to 17psi sometimes going back down to 14-15psi which is normal. Other times it would fluctuate between 14 and 15psi and not reach 16-17. No cel light came on.
My98, downpipe and back box, K+n induction, 98ron.
Not sure if this is fuel cut, or why it should be reaching it ?

Thanks
Gervase

Yes it is fuel cut. You need to clean out the solenoid and pipework, but really it should not be peaking over 14-15 PSI in any gear on any occasion, so if it has been doing this at all you need to enlarge the restrictor in the compressor outlet pipe by 0.1mm to cure it.

Thanks for the reply John. I have had the downpipe for a year or so and run in very cold conditions minus 10-15c and not experienced it before.(not sure if that has anything to do with it)
I have a vague idea of what to do with regard to cleaning out the necessary pipes etc, but do you know where i might find a pic or description so i know for sure ?

Thanks

It is probably oil then. Check the oil level, and spray brake cleaner (not brake fluid ) through the boost control pipes. Sorry I don't have a diagram, but they are the ones off the compressor to the T-piece, and the one from the base of the T-piece to the solenoid in the wing.

Thanks again. Sprayed it, and seems better although its wavering still around 14-15psi.

When I was cleaning the pipe from the compressor housing to the T connector, I noticed there was something in it, a metal/plastic bit which restricted the flow of the cleaning fluid. Any ideas what this is and why its there ?

Supposed to be there. Search on "restrictor".
