Broken engine..... (buy new, rebuild original or buy stroker kit or uprated internals
#1
Now the problem is:
1 conrod bearing rotated inside the conrod.
Now I have to buy:
1) set of conrods bearing (+0,25mm if I decide rebuild crankshaft)
2) 1 or 2 pieces conrods
3) crankshaft (I can rebuild it but prefer new non stress heated crankshaft)
4) set of main bearings
-----------
All this parts are the same as in GT or UK turbo
5) I measured some about 0,15 mm piston clearance - I need to rebuit engine block and have to buy set of Sti pistons and rings.
This price + price for work is about 2/3 of price for TODA racing kit.

My STi3 engine is broken (Conrod bearing). Also conrod and crankshaft is broken too. Engine has 80.000 miles. I measured pistons and block and there is clearance. (engine consumed oil before). There is three ways:
1) buy new sti shortblock or used shortblock from all types of STi
2) rebuild engine: rebuild crankshaft, block. New conrods, new +,025 conrods bearing, new pistons
3) buy stroker kit (TODA racing???) or HKS internals against standard Subaru internals?
What is your advice?

Hrubago, have a look on the Internet at http://www.mrtrally.com.au/ for there Stroker kits, blocks etc or try these searching for these people "Tony Rigoli Performance" in Australia, they build special blocks, cranks, rods pistons etc.

sti short blocks are difficult to get hold of.
I would contact mark at lateral performance and ask him to sell you some uprated ineternals.
Has your conrod bearing damaged the standard crankshaft in anyway?
I would be inclined to uprate at least just the rods in the same way that john felstead has just done [http=http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000517.html]here.[/url]
If you want to go further you can go for the pistons too.
by retaining the standard combustion chamber size, shape and volume you can run the engine as if it were a standard sti, but know that if you want to at a later date you can stick far more boost through it.
If you are keen on the stroked set up, again speak to mark as he is liley to be your best bet with regard to pricing on such parts. I had heard that the quality of the toda kit is not great, but by speaking to one person who has done what you are talkign about, you can tailor the make the kit to your goals and your budget.

I still say speak to mark.
if you need a new crank and rods anyway, you could find yourself with a strokerf spec for the saem rpice as what you would otherwise have spent repairing the standard one, instead of the poor reputationed off the shelf toda kit.
